Chapter Thirty-One
Will
The lights from the country house shone out brightly into the dark, casting a glow on the ivy covering the frontage. It was huge and looked luxurious, and I was glad I’d worn a suit instead of just trousers and a shirt. Maya had said no expense had been spared, but that everyone there was relaxed and, in her words, ‘not up their own arses’, but I was still glad I’d gone smart. I wanted to make a good impression with her family, because she mattered.
With a deep breath, I ran up the stone steps to the huge double front door that was open to the cool evening air. Inside the grand entrance, which had a tiled floor and wood-panelled walls, people milled around chatting and drinking. On the far side was another set of double doors open to what looked like a ballroom. I could see tables with white cloths and gold and purple chairs, and loads of candles around the room, light was reflecting off the glasses, and it looked exactly like Maya had said; no expense had been spared.
I looked around, over the tops of people’s heads, searching for her. She’d said she’d meet me at the door, but I was a little early and I knew what weddings were like. You started to do something, go somewhere, and got side tracked by some relative you hadn’t seen in ten years.
“Can I help you?” A tall guy dressed like a butler asked.
“Oh, yeah. I’m looking for my girlf—erm, my friend. It’s her brother’s wedding. Maya Mackenzie.”
He nodded once. “Yes, sir, she did ask me to keep a look out for you. If you’d like to come this way.” He took a step forward and then looked back over his shoulder. “She got waylaid helping the bride’s mother in the bathroom.”
I raised an eyebrow, only able to imagine what that meant. “No problem.”
He led a path through the tables and past the already packed area to a table at the head of the room. It had a tall candle in the middle with an array of smaller ones of varying sizes placed around it. And there, leaning over a woman who looked like she’d had far too many champagnes, was Maya. She looked beautiful. Wearing a tight, emerald green dress, a shade darker than her eyes, that hugged every single one of her curves, her long hair hung down her back in soft waves. Her arms were bare, and her skin practically glowed in the candlelight. She had gold hoops at her ears and gold bangles on her wrists, and when my gaze travelled down her long legs, my dick stirred. I imagined them wrapped around me while she still wore the high, pointed, bronze coloured shoes that she had on. I just knew she smelled good, too.
“Here you are, sir.” He waved a hand towards the table. “Miss Mackenzie.”
As he walked away, I took a step closer to the woman who had been filling my head twenty-four hours a day. As if she’d felt me close, her head whipped around, and her eyes locked withmine. The glorious smile that broke out sent my dick fully hard, and I was glad I’d worn boxer briefs to at least keep it under some control.
“Will,” my name came out as a gasp as she moved towards me.
As soon as she reached me, she walked into my arms, wrapping hers around my neck and standing on tiptoe to kiss me.
“You look gorgeous,” I told her. “Absolutely stunning.” I ran a hand down her arm until our hands met, and I linked them together. With her in my arms, my heart expanded, filling my chest until it felt too tight. Everything about her made me want more. I knew that she was what I wanted for my future, for however long that would be, because the idea of a moment without her was too hard to think about. She’d become my reason.
“You don’t look too bad yourself.” She drew back to look me up and down. “Very handsome.”
“Didn’t want to disappoint you.”
She licked her bottom lip and sighed. “I don’t think you could ever disappoint me, Will.”
I couldn’t resist her pouty lips and kissed her softly. My hand went to the small of her back and pulled her closer. As we got lost in the kiss, there was a danger that I might take it further, and we were at a family wedding.
“We need to stop,” I groaned. “Your whole family are watching.”
Maya swung her gaze over her shoulder, to the table behind her. Everyone sitting around it was watching us with their mouths hanging open, apart from the drunk woman, whose head was down on the white cloth. It was also clear that they were one family. They all had the same shade of dark hair andthe two men staring back at me with huge grins, had the gap between their top front teeth, just like Maya.
Maya sighed. “Okay. I suppose we should do introductions. Will, meet my family. My brothers Jack and Charlie,” they both waved, “Jack’s wife, Heather, my mum Debra, my dad, Ian and my new sister in law Laura’s mum, Paula.” She leaned closer. “She’s the one asleep on the table.” She looked around and pointed to the dancefloor. “And the woman in the gorgeous cream lace dress is Laura and the three kids dancing with her belong to Jack. They are Daisy, George and Claudia.”
I looked back to the table. “Hey everyone.” I gave them a chin lift and what I hoped was a winning smile. “Nice to meet you all.”
“Come and sit next to me,” Debra patted the chair next to her, mischief in her eyes.
