“Fine. But I want to revisit the anal talk,” I added.

“Will you stop saying anal?” he hissed.

“I’m ordering a dildo.”

“Holy shit, what have I unleashed?” Maddox grumbled as he sat down beside me. “Come on. Time to focus.”

“If coding doesn’t work out for you, there’s always teaching.”

Maddox snorted. “Hard no.”

I slid my hand over his thigh and squeezed. “Hard yes.”

Maddox leaned over and kissed me again. When he sat back, the smirk on his face was as irresistible as his scowl.

“At least I know a surefire way to get you to stop talking,” he replied. “Two, in fact.”

“Shut up and tutor me.”

Maddox

Two hours later, Kayden and I snuck out of the library as quietly and quickly as we could. No doubt the room smelled like sex, but I’m sure we weren’t the first ones to get down and dirty in there. Horny college students probably favored it. There were no windows, and the door locked. Plus, there were no cameras. At least, I didn’t think so.

Oh well. Too late to worry about it now.

And getting caught was the least of it. I was more concerned that I was fucking around with Kayden to begin with. The fact I couldn’t resist him made me want to jump on a plane and head home. Or head anywhere and not look back. But that wasn’t rational. I needed to get my goddamn degree, get noticed by the scouts, and get my life going. Then I could go wherever I wanted. Or wherever I was traded. I had to get drafted first.

And I had to remind myself that what we were doing was hooking up. It didn’t mean anything more than that. And it gave me pleasure. Pleasure I never thought I’d experience. Why deny myself?

Since we were both starving (for food), but not keen on the cafeteria offerings, we headed into town. Kayden’s phone buzzed as we were walking.

“Jackson and Dane are already at Boots and Burgers. Wanna join them?”

I didn’t want to people, but we were headed there anyway.

“Sure.”

Okay, maybe it wouldn’t kill me to get to know Dane better. He was a great player and a good captain. So far. And he was a friend of Kayden’s so… Not that I cared what Dane thought about me. He knew I was a snarky ass, but that’s all he knew. And he was protective of Kayden. So, I figured, it wouldn’t do any harm to play nice for once. Besides, too much assholery could create tension that I didn’t need.

Yeah, and fucking around with your teammate isn’t going to create tension?

I suddenly realized that Kayden and I were risking a lot by fucking around. Like skating on an unfamiliar lake, one break in the ice, and we were done for. If our teammates found out, well, there would be blowback, right? And what if the scouts found out? It was difficult enough getting drafted, never mind being a queer player. And yeah, I realized I was that. Never thought I’d have an epiphany about my sexuality like this, but then again, wasn’t that part of what college was about? Finding out who you are?

Then I thought about how many hockey pros were openly queer. I could only think of one. One. Out of a thousand. Those odds weren’t looking good.

“What are you thinking about?” Kayden asked me as we strolled past the many shops that lined main street.

“Nothing.”

“Do you really want me to keep asking? Because I will.”

“No one can ever find out about us,” I blurted out.

Kayden stopped short and turned to me. His lips were red, swollen, a dead giveaway as to what he’d been up to. Mine were the same. How were we going to explain this away? Only a short while ago, he had my dick in his mouth, and now we were going to meet up with his friends, our teammates, and pretend nothing happened.

“I’m serious. Hockey is the only reason I’m here.”

Kayden nodded, then looked away. “I know. I’m the same.”
