He lets out a low growl, trying to fight against the whip as I tug at it and insert it further into his neck.
His knees buckle with the pain, falling to the ground as his other hand tries to claw at the whip from the outside.
He tries to do a partial shift, but his larger frame only embeds the spikes deeper into him. A pained grunt bubbles from his throat as he glares up at me.
“Who do you work for?” I call, stepping toward him and gripping the whip’s handle. “What did you need him for?” I raise my chin toward Erving as he sits himself up and glances our way.
I’m met with a sneer and an angry growl.
So I tug the whip again, pushing for a response.
“I won’t ask again.”
He opens his mouth slightly, blood dripping down his teeth and flowing into the wounds growing wider on his neck.
“You’ll get nothing from us, but I promise you’ll regret this day.” His grin widens, his eyes looking almost manic as he lets go of the whip with his hands and pushes toward the ground, the spikes in the whip instantly skewering him.
A sickening gurgling noise sounds from his lips before his last breath seeps from them. His arms fall limp to his sides as blood pools around his head.
Erving pulls himself straight, his eyes slightly wide as he makes his way over, a small trickle of blood falling down one side of his face as he winces.
“That was...different.” A small smile coats his lips as he glances between me and the body. “How did—”
Erving’s words are interrupted as the door flings open as Mallyn and Ezra burst in. They glance toward the bodies on the floor and then at me and Erving, a shocked look taking over Ezra’s expression as Annex comes in through the back door. Covered in blood and grinning from ear to ear. He glances at the bodies around the room.
“Looks like we all had a bit of fun.”
Ezra shakes his head, pointing to the three bodies.
“That wasn’t us…” He stares my way. “Micai?”
Erving nods before I can answer, gesturing to each corpse.
“She took em’ all down.”
Annex raises a brow before his grin widens.
“That’s my girl.”
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
MICAI’S POV
Asmall yawn stretches my lips, the sun too bright as it shines in on me through the small slit in the navy plush curtains.
It had been a long night. After the attack on Erving’s place, we had moved him to one of the guy’ssafe houses. a small apartment on the other side of Erving’s city.
He wasn’t exactly happy about the move or having to leave most of his stuff behind, especially his special editions. But Ezra said they would get someone named ‘Silas’to look into the attack and have ‘Leche’help move the rest of his things later.Whoever or whatever that meant.
The small glint of the sun shining through Ezra’s curtains catches me again, its bright attack relentless until I finally give in. I gently unwrap Ezra’s hands and then Annex’s arms from around me, slowly shimmying down the bed like a worm so as not to wake either of them.
I had planned to return to my dorm room last night, but Ezra, Annex, and even Mallyn insisted that I stay with them in the abattoir.
Annex said he would‘feel safer with me around’. The jackass then gave me one of his mischievous grins and I realised exactly how ‘safe’ he wanted to feel.
A grin tilts my lips as I glance back at them, snoring sweetly as I close the door and head downstairs.
I was wearing loose pyjama bottoms that Ezra gave me and a black T-shirt from Annex. The latter is two sizes too big and slips off one of my shoulders as I move.
