“Words leave scars that aren’t easily removed, Creed. Try not to scratch at the small wounds you’ve already caused. I know you’ll regret it in the future.”

What the hell was Ezra talking about? Why would I care about Micai or her scars?

I flick my gaze between them both, their expressions serious as they watch me. Had they both lost their minds over this girl?

I get that there was more to her than I initially thought, and maybe she wasn’t just some side-chick trying to use our status or power to help herself. But there still wasn’t enough information about her to trust her so easily.

I could see she cared for my brothers to some extent.

And she clearly wasn’t scared of any of us, running with Mallyn’s beast, standing up to Annex and his blades, and not hiding away or flinching from me either. Something grown men three times her size have failed to do.

I could sometimes see some of the appeal, but it wasn’t enough.

Itcouldn’tbe.

We worked too hard and came too far to throw things away for someone we barely knew.

I steel myself, my wall building higher and stronger as I gaze at my brothers.

So long as she doesn’t damage the work we’re doing, I’ll play nice…for now.

But the information on her was limited, and from what I had seen the night of the attack, she was undoubtedly hiding secrets. Secrets that could potentially hurt my family. And I couldn’t take that risk.

I couldn’t read Micai. She was uncontrollable and unpredictable, which could be dangerous for my brothers.

I won’t risk them getting hurt. They had suffered enough. We all had.

And our plans were bigger than one blue-eyed girl.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

MICAI’S POV

Istretch my arms above me, my body feeling more rested than I thought it would after waking up from that horrible memory.

I turn around, remembering Annex, and am met with a small note where Annex had been.

Red, I’m grabbing us some food.

Stay in bed and keep it warm for me. Or keep dreaming about me.

Whatever you prefer.

~A

A small chuckle leaves my lips as I get up and head toward the shower, flipping on the old faucet and jumping in.

It was still early, and Annex would probably be gone a while. The bed was still warm on his side, so he must have just recently left.

I wash up, scrubbing myself quickly and getting dressed before scribbling a small note in case he returns while I’m gone.

I head out, making my way towards the main building. I wanted to check the interview times and ask how long they would be.

However, as I approach the reception, Mr. Heinley spots me, halting me in my tracks as he calls out my name.

“Ms. Bane.Perfect.” He gestures toward the first-level classrooms as I raise a brow.

“You were coming for the interview, yes? Well, the representatives have set up earlier than we anticipated and want to start. And since you’re already here…” He gives me a small smile, a sense of urgency bleeding through his expression. “You might as well be first.”
