The entire room smells like us, I muse happily as I thread my fingers through Alex’s hair.
I would love nothing more than to close my eyes and go back to sleep, but my stomach is rumbling, and I’m thirsty. One glance at the clock on the bedside table has me sighing.
It’s two in the morning.
Closing my eyes, I try to push away the hunger, but it returns with a vengeance as soon as I begin to drift off again.
Irritated, I resign myself to leaving the comfort of Alex’s arms.
As I gently untangle myself from him, he opens one eye, half asleep. “Where are you going?”
“To get some water.”
“I’ll get it for you.”
He’s about to roll over when I stop him. “No, you stay here. My muscles are stiff, so I need to move around anyway. Go back to sleep.”
He kisses my bare shoulder before closing his eyes again.
Sliding out of bed, I hold in my whimper.
Goddess, it’s so much worse standing up!
Hopping on one foot and then the other, I pick up my shirt and realize that Alex tore all the buttons. I glower in his general direction.
“You owe me a new blouse,” I tell him.
He makes a sound of acquiescence before pulling the blanket over his head.
Opening the closet, I pull out one of his shirts and put it on before making my way down the steps. The light in the kitchen is on, and I can smell Lily’s scent before I enter the room.
She has a cup of tea in her hands and is staring down into it, a thoughtful expression on her face.
When I clear my throat, she looks up and blinks. “You’re awake.” She peers around the edge of the island counter, a sly look in her eyes. “And not limping at all.”
I narrow my gaze at her. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Lily picks up her cup and sips the tea before smacking her lips just to annoy me. “Nothing. You do remember how to soundproof a room, don’t you?”
My entire face feels hot. “Y-Yeah.”
“Good to know,” she replies simply, sipping the tea again. Only this time, I know she’s using the cup to hide her smirk.
“I’m starving,” I mutter. I turn to the fridge to raid it, and I hear Lily snort from behind me.
“I bet.”
I shoot her an evil look over my shoulder before taking out some frozen sausages.
Lily is hellbent on embarrassing me tonight, though. “So, Alex has stamina, huh?”
“Lily!” I cry out, wishing the floor would open up and swallow me whole. I slam the sausages on the kitchen counter. “Do you have to do this?”
“I couldn’t sleep!” Lily grumbles, annoyed. “Soundproofing! Don’t you know how important that is?”
“Well, you could have done it for us!” I exclaim, wishing I’d had the foresight to do it.
She shakes her head at me. “You would have felt the magic, and it would have interrupted your little sexy time.”
