I know of Pallo’s.It’s an upcoming club in Los Angeles where many younger Hollywood celebrities like to hang out and take pictures for Instagram.

I wait for her conversation to finish, and then I stir. The shuffling of my shoes makes her shoot her head up, and her voice is cautious. “Who’s there?”

When I walk into the dim light, she’s on her feet, and when she sees me, her whole body relaxes—and not in a good way.

“Oh, it’s you.”

Chapter 32

My Dick Won’t Allow it

HUNTER

Megan’s expression when she sees me is irritating the hell out of me.

“I’m going to go inside,” she says flatly.

The way she’s trying to avoid me and pretend as if nothing ever happened between us is pissing me off and making me want to smoke this damn cigarette.

“So that’s what you’re going to do now?” I ask, my voice mocking with anger. “Run away every time you see me?”

She pauses on the steps and stares at me. “I’m not running. I’m doing what you wanted and what we agreed upon, which was what happens in Paris stays in Paris. Plus, the last person who did the running was you when you stomped out of my apartment.”

“I never agreed to any what happens in Paris arrangement,” I correct her coolly. “You used me, not the other way around.”

“What do you mean you didn’t agree to it?” Her face drops. “You know what, I’m not getting into this with you right now. I need to get back to work. If you remember, I manage your club.”

I take a step closer to her, my voice silky, “From what I remember, since we’ve met, it’s been you who was insistent on not sleeping with me because you were sure I was going to take advantage of you, but then look what happened. You turned the tables on me in Paris and took advantage of me, and now you’re not talking to me?”

From the look on her face, she clearly didn’t expect me to say what I did. The guilt in her eyes is adorable as I feign the injured lover.

“That’s not what I meant to do,” she stammers.

“But you did,” I reply smoothly. “And now that you’ve had your fun, you want nothing more to do with me? A little hypocritical, wouldn’t you say?”

I wonder if I’ve taken things a little too far when I see the panic settle in her eyes, her hand clenching around the sandwich in her hand, crushing it.

“I didn’t mean to send out any mixed messages, and I definitely wasn’t using you. Paris was your idea, if you recall, and honestly, I didn’t think you gave the trip or any nights after that a second thought at all.”

I feel a hint of satisfaction as I gain more ground, but then she adds, “Plus, I’m pretty sure I remember you saying once that you can have any woman you want, so why are you so worried about whether or not I’m talking to you? It’s no different from you not having much to say to me on the plane ride home.”

My brows knit together at her offhanded comment. Is that why she’s so pissed at me? I barely recall what was said or not said during the flight home.

“Listen, Mr. Middleton, you’ve been nothing but nice to me most of the time. A month ago, my life was shit, but now I have a nice apartment and a stable job, which you and I both know I wasn’t next in line for. I know it’s just because you’re trying tohelp me, and I’m grateful. I swear I am; I’m just trying my best not to be a nuisance to you.”

“A nuisance?” I repeat her words, uncomfortable with where this conversation is headed.

“It seems harmless enough for us to play around with each other as we did in Paris, and even in the apartment the other night, but once you’ve had your fill and decide to get rid of me, your life will be unaffected. I’ll be the one to pay the price, and I’m not ready to pay that price.

“You were right to distance yourself from me first. We’re in totally different places in our lives. So now that we’re both sober and back in the States, let’s just let what happened go. That was drunk sex and nothing more.”

I stare at her, stunned by the firm conviction in her words. No woman has ever talked to me like this, at least not ones I’ve had in my bed. They always wanted more.

“Nothing more?”

While this is probably one of Megan’s smarter decisions about me, I don’t know why her regret about what happened angers me so much. I’m not sure whether it’s just my arrogance or something more, but I want to punch something and punch it hard. However, I wouldn’t be standing where I am today if I were that impulsive person. Cooler heads always prevail, even when it comes to matters of the heart.

I stare at the voluptuous beauty before me with hungry eyes. I’ve not yet had my fill of Megan. My craving for her proves to be a steady distraction, and the very thought of her is enough to make my dick throb right where I stand. I don’t know why I can’t get this tiny artist out of my head, but until I do, I have no plans to back off.
