Emilee held the phone high as she faced her back to the guests like she was taking a selfie. The crowd oddly complied and said cheese as she hit the button, and I grabbed her waist, getting her down in the bath as the entire place exploded.
The bombs were small, but there were enough to take out every pew and every person who had attended. Including the pastor.
The explosions stopped, the smoke billowed up, and the smoke alarms cried out as sprinklers filled the entire place.
Emilee popped up her head and looked around.
“Forgive me, father, for you have sinned,” she said and smiled. “Halle will be so happy. One less pedophile to make the world safe for her baby.”
Sirens blared in the distance.
“That’s our cue.”
Gage helped me get Emilee out and I carried her the rest of the way out the side door, where Parks and Halle were waiting in the getaway Escalade.
“Get this dead body car on the road,” she called out as Gage climbed in the back and I held Emilee to my side and the engine roared to life.
“That was the best wedding yet,” Emilee said. I looked at her, water dripping over her face. The sprinklers weren’t part of the plan.
“That should be the last of them. Two weddings in two days in two cities is plenty,” Parks said over his shoulder as we pulled out into the road.
“If it’s not, the organization is dismantled enough. I don’t see there being any more problems,” I answered.
“And at least I got good use out of this dress,” Emilee added into the conversation.
It had been a long fucking week, and I laid my head on the seat.
“Can we not plan any more weddings? I didn’t even get to eat the cakes you fucking made me pick out.”
Emilee shifted in my arms.
“I was giving you the wedding experience. And we had to make it all look real.”
She never missed a detail, that was certain.
“Alright. Well, now off to the hospital. My father is officially awake. Might as well introduce him to my wife.”
Emilee giggled.
“That sounds so weird.”
I nuzzled her neck.
“You didn’t think it was weird when I said that last night. Or this morning.”
Gage groaned.
“Shut up. I don’t have to know what happens in your fucking home. Shit, Roman. Damn it. You ruined my high.”
I held my wife closer and smiled, even if Gage was right behind us.
“Does your father know about Dorian?” Gage asked. Halle was turned around, listening in.
“No, but he will. I hired a whole new team of doctors because of him, so I’m certain my father isn’t going to give a shit once he knows Dorian and Vinny were paying to keep him in a coma. Still, even if he does, the road to recovery is on my dime. I am certain we can make it take a very long time.”
Emilee was stroking my face.
“Do you think he’ll like me?”
