We walked back to the house in silence.

As we took the steps one by one, mindful of the slippery surface, Legion walked in front, and I hung behind with my hand on the railing.

The door was open. Katalina stood under the awning. Her arms crossed over her chest as she watched us approach.

When Legion got closer, she took his hand and led him away.

I was left in the foyer alone, forming puddles on the floor.

Chapter Thirteen

Sleep came fast, though I tossed and turned in the monstrous queen-size before finally succumbing to my dreams.

I didn’t recognize where I stood. My feet sunk into the fine red sand, and the undulating grey sky stretched open and wide around me. Endless. Red sand and stormy skies. No plants, buildings, no other soul for miles.

I looked up as the sky flashed white; streaks of fire raced across the grey clouds, burning through them. Comets raining down from the sky.

I held out my hand, and a singed black feather landed in my palm. I closed my fist around it, but it was gone when I opened my hand.

“Lexi,” Sev called my name. Barely more than a whisper, but I heard him as if he was standing next to me. When I looked up, he was there. His smile was languid as his golden eyes dragged over my body before returning to my face. “You said I could visit.” He added.

It took a minute to recognize the contrite emotion on his face—Sev, the Lust demon and generally calculating bastard was worried about my reaction to his sudden appearance in my dream.

“I’ve had a long day,” I admitted, sinking down to my butt so I could sit in the sand.

Sev came up to my side and sat with me. “I heard. Arlo told me that you and Legion had a moment.”

I barked a laugh. “If you mean that he kissed me, then yes.”

Sev gave me the side eye. “He kissed you?”

“Uh-huh.” I nodded. “My worst nightmare. I waited for the curse to come into effect, but nothing happened. I put my wardrobe in front of the door just in case it’s delayed.”

“Do you need me to guard you?” Sev pulled his bottom lip between his teeth. “I can make sure that Legion doesn’t bother you.”

“The curse didn’t take,” I assured him.

“You were still kissed without permission.” He asserted. “Legion might be my brother. My facet, but I won’t allow anyone to take advantage. Not again.”

My heart skipped a beat. “I’m okay, Sev.”

“I know.” Sev looked up at the sky. The raining lights reflected in his eyes. “Those are angels, you know.” He gestured towards the falling stars. “When Lucifer stole the scepter from Nova, or God, as you call her, she cast all of the angels that showed Lucifer any favor. She threw them out of the Summerland.”

“Where are we?” I wondered.

“Hell.” Sev clipped.

“Ah.” I nodded, turning back to the sky. “Is this your memory?”

Sev smiled, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Trying to get more information, I see.”

I shrugged.

“Legion would tell you if he wanted you to know.” Sev continued.

“Is Legion the boss of you then?” I gave him a cocky grin.

“Something like that.” Sev sniffed and turned away.
