She waited expectantly. Her brows raised
“Normally, people introduce themselves,” She said. “Especially when they’re in someone else’s home.”
“I thought this was Mr. Legions' home,” I replied lightly.
“We’re his witches.”
“Ah.” I elongated the sound. “I thought this was his harem.”
Her cheeks turned pink as annoyance splashed on her face. “Your name?”
“Lexi Boudaire.” I grinned. “I’m here for a job. I’ll be out of your hair soon enough.”
“And you’re a witch?” She put her hand on her hip.
“Yes.” Technically I was a witch, though I was a null. “What did you say your name was?”
“I didn’t.”
I didn’t like the little cocky smile she did.
“My name is Katalina Dubois.” She tilted her head. “This is my coven. We live here at Legion’s behest.”
“You’re his pet witches?” I cocked my head to the side, affecting innocence. I had no room to talk, I was Beelzebub’s errand girl, but something about Katalina Dubois made me want to needle her. Knock her down a peg or two. My knuckles itched with the need to crack them.
“I’m going to cut the shit.” Katalina brushed off my comment with a flick of her strawberry hair. “Did you bring an artifact with you when you arrived? Did you see anything last night? Any stones or salt or unusual demons hanging about?”
My brow furrowed. “Not to my knowledge.”
“Do you mind if Ashley takes a look?” Katalina glanced over her shoulder at the other witches, beckoning a woman with green hair and false eyelashes forward.
I didn’t have a chance to answer the question before Ashley, the green-haired witch took my hand and allowed it to drop as if it had burned her skin. She shook her hand, her eyes wide as she turned to Katalina. The two women exchanged whispers that made me feel like I was back in high school.
I knew what was coming next.
Didn’t stop it from stinging, though.
“You’re a null,” Katalina said flatly, both brows raised as she looked down her nose at me. “Does Legion know you’re in the witches' quarters?”
I crossed my arms over my chest and met her glare. “He put me here.”
“You can’t stay here,” Katalina argued, waving her hand in my face. “Leave, or I’ll make you.”
I held my ground. “With what magic?”
Katalina bared her teeth at me.
Ashley glanced between us. “Maybe we should talk to Mr—”
Katalina clapped her hands together, interrupting the other witch. “Excellent idea, Ashley. We’ll talk to Legion. I’m sure he’ll understand why there shouldn’t be a null amongst the coven.”
I gestured towards the door. “By all means, go ahead.”
Katalina’s jaw ticked as if I had called her bluff.
I pressed my hand to my stomach and gave her a bright, innocent smile. “By the way, when’s breakfast? I’m starving.”
“You can’t eat with us.” One of the other witches chimed in, standing up.
