She gives me a sad smile. “We are going to do everything we can to put this man in jail for a long time. After we take pictures, I’ll cover you, alright?”

I nod as I look back up at the ceiling. “Hurry.”

She shouts orders to a few people, and camera flashes fill the room as I’m subjected to pictures and them gathering evidence. One of the male officers moves in my direction, and I snap. I scream and tug at my restraints again. “Get away! Get away from me!”

He pauses before backing away. Through the fog of my panic, I hear a familiar voice. “Ice Princess. Lizzy, baby. Try to stay calm.” His broken voice cuts through my panic. I turn in the direction I heard his voice and see Vicy holding him back. He pauses his fight to get to me when he sees me looking at him. He blinks, and I watch as a few tears stream down his cheeks. With asad smile, he meets my gaze. “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere. Keep your eyes on me, okay?”

I feel something cover me, and I go to look, but Dean’s voice stops me. “Eyes on me, princess. Don’t look away.”

My eyes never stray, but exhaustion fills me as the adrenaline leaves my body. “Ghost?” My voice is brittle as his nickname slips over my dry lips.

A wet laugh escapes him as he nods. “Yeah, baby. It’s me. I’m here.”

I let his dark eyes be my escape while the officers do what they need. Never letting my gaze stray from his. He looks so tired. I can see dark circles under his eyes.

When I hear the female officer beside me, I startle. “Miss?”

I let my gaze move from Dean to look to her. “Yes?”

She stands and backs away. “We have everything we need. Your wrists and ankles will need to be looked at, but you are free.”

Before I can make a single move, I’m wrapped in Dean’s arms. I’m engulfed in his warm scent, and my body melts into his. I slowly wrap around him, and I feel my eyes burn. Relief fills me, as tears slip down my cheeks. I feel him shaking as his wet breath brushes across my neck.

“I was so fucking scared. I’ve never been so afraid in my life than when I saw you ripped away from me.” His arms tighten around me as he huffs. “I fucking love you, Elizabeth.”

With as much strength as I can, I tighten my grip on him and whisper, “I love you, too, Dean.”

It’s not long before I lose the battle to stay awake. I haven’t slept much since being brought here and knowing I’m safe means my body needs rest. I was too afraid to sleep with Emmitt; I didn’t know what he would have done if he found me asleep.

Dean must feel my body go limp, and he pulls away just enough to look at me. “Lizzy?”

My head lulls as I lose the fight completely. “So tired,” I mumble.

I can hear his panic as he yells, “I need help!”

Words are yelled around me, but I can’t make most of them out.I’m sorry, I’m making you worry. But... I’m so... tired. The last thing I feel before darkness consumes me is my body being lifted in the air.

Chapter Thirty-Nine

The first thing I remember after was waking up in a hospital bed with the steady beep sounding around the room. I wince when I open my eyes, hoping the room isn’t too bright. My boys must have already thought of that because the room is warmly lit, and I can see the bright daylight mostly blocked behind the curtains.

When I finally focus, I see there are eight bodies slumped around the room. Dean and Mac are on either side of the bed, their heads resting on the edge of my bed. Each has a hand on my thighs. I can’t stop myself from weaving my fingers into their hair.

Dark, licorice locks cover my right hand as wavy dark chocolate strands cover my left. Damn, I love their hair. How do they keep it so soft and fluffy? They start to stir under my touch, and their eyes slowly open.

“Morning, sleeping beauties,” I say in a rough whisper.

Their eyes pop before Dean jerks up with a shout. “You’re awake!”

I wince, and Mac swats him with a grunt. “Stay quiet, you asshole!”

Dean looks thoroughly chastised as he whispers, “Sorry, Liz.”

“You guys look rough. How long have I been out?” I grunt as I try to sit up in the bed.

Mac jumps up to press a button on the side of the bed. It slowly lifts, and I don’t have to work so hard to sit up. “You’ve been out for a few days. The doctors said you needed the rest, and they set up an IV for nutrition stuff.”

I grin at his description. “IV nutrition stuff?”
