“Why are you hiding?” she asked. The men had moved, so she could search the shadows, but they effectively hid me.
“My demon isn’t as nice looking as the other’s. It’s not something you want to see,” I whispered but loud enough everyone heard me. The shame was clear in my voice.
Trigger snorted, grumbling that demons weren’t supposed to look appealing. I ignored him. No one had moved or looked away from the corner where I hid, and it only heightened my frustration. I was trying to stay hidden, but they were refusing to let me.
“So?” Her nonchalance gave me a little hope, but I reminded myself that she hadn’t seen me. Wrath Demons didn’t shift into their demon form unless they were filled with rage or mating, so not many people knew what we looked like.
“Untie me,” she finally said when I didn’t answer her or move to show myself.
“He doesn’t want you to?—”
Kain tried to take control over the situation, but Ivy’s face snapped his way and growled. He lifted his hands in the air. “I’m just saying forcing him to do something might make him rage out. We don’t do well with our wills being taken away from us.”
She sighed and nodded. “Fine, but still untie me. I won’t force him to do anything.”
They had a stare off that no one interrupted. This leader shit was between them, their demons demanded them to test each other until there was a clear victor. All I wanted was to be there with them. Once they became settled into their new roles, they would be happy. That was why no one else moved to untie her. Kain would still be higher ranking than any of us, so stepping on his toes would only set him back. His demon would never listen to us, but Ivy was a different story.
He sighed and stiffly moved to her. “No leaving. Deal?”
She rolled her eyes but nodded to appease him.
He made quick work of the bindings. The sex swing that held her wasn’t meant to be used as a forced restraint. If magic hadn’t been helping the straps stay on her, she would have broken free easily.
When she tumbled forward, everyone in the room moved to help. But Kain had his arms around her before she could fall. When their eyes met, the air around them was charged. The sexual tension between them buzzed through the open bond.
“Thank you,” she whispered. “That spell drained me more than I realized.”
“I’ll always catch you, my sweet Poison.” His voice was practically a purr for her.
It made me smile. Even with all the butting heads they were doing I could still see how happy we were going to be. Once I got my demon under control anyway. Honestly, the showers with the soothing spell was the reason I had any control.
She stepped away from Kain’s embrace with trembling legs. My heart pounded against my rib cage as the determination in her pink gaze sharpened on me. Her sweet scent had my chest vibrating as my demon registered her as his mate. Her demon perked up at the sound, and her eyes flashed red like a flashlight running out of batteries.
In response to my call, her horns pulsed with a resonant hum. Ivy gasped at the new sensation. My smile turned wicked. Only Wrath Demons and their mates could vibrate for each other, a sound reminiscent of a rattlesnake’s tail—deep, dangerous.
“Please,” was all she said, but it twisted my gut as if a blade slammed into me. Everything inside of me warned me that her rejection would kill me.
The sound of my feet as they moved was deafening. My body might appear to almost be floating with the coloring, but I was extremely heavy. When we were kids and my hormones were going crazy, Kain and Trigger had bets to see how heavy I’d get. That was why no one tended to live when a Wrath Demon raged at them. We were impossible to take down, unless the person had a lot of power to protect themselves.
I stepped fully away from the shadows. Though, they lingered around me for comfort. I took a deep breath, waiting for the scream. When nothing happened, my eyes snapped to her. Worry seeped out of my pores.
Her eyes were slightly wide as she scanned my body, but there was no fear. It gave me the courage to step closer. Her horns vibrated again in pleasure. Now, it was my turn to have wide eyes. Could she really be okay with my demon?
“Why would I be scared of you, mate? You’re striking. If you were my enemy, I’d be worried. But your sexy ass is right here beside me.” Her words left me stunned. She had to be teasing. My demon was far from sexy.
The switch in her face happened again, but this time, rage shined in her blazing gaze. “You think I’m lying?”
I met it with my own glare. I wasn’t a child. She didn’t need to lie to me. “You don’t need to say things that aren’t true. The fact you aren’t running away screaming is all I can ask for.”
“You think you’re not sexy as fuck? Like you wouldn’t ruin my fucking pussy with one thrust? My demon is thrashing around in excitement, but so am I.” She grabbed my thick arm. I was already struck stupid, so when she put my hand on her pussy, I couldn’t breathe.
She moaned. Her flawless complexion reddened with a flush. “Do you feel how wet I am?” I gulped, but I still couldn’t say anything. The heat of her pussy felt like fire on my palm. My chest was vibrating again. “Still?”
I glanced away from her because deep down, I didn’t think this wetness was for me. My mate was just sweet. I was a lucky man.
Without warning, Ivy withdrew my hand, causing my heart to drop with dread. Just as I braced for her rejection, her leg swung around. The force of her magic in the hit, it knocked me off my feet. I crashed to the floor, the impact reverberating through my body. My brothers tensed, stepping forward with concern—either for her safety or mine, but I would never hurt her. If she needed to hurt me, I would accept it gladly.
She turned to them and hissed, stopping them in their tracks. Ivy looked like a wild animal, her claws, fangs, and the black veins that descended from under her eyes were out. Her hair lifted at the ends and her skin had glitter flakes beginning to appear. I was too busy focusing on her skin to see what she was doing. She pounced on me. Her claws slicing my bare chest. I hissed at the pain but didn’t fight back or protect myself.
