“You cum-guzzling whore. Again? I was in the middle of watching Supernatural and Dean just took off his…” her voice trailed off when her feet squished in the blood. “Holy vampire butthole.”
I snorted. Leave it to Beaut to make a murder scene funny. “Sorry to interrupt you, but I need your help.”
She scoffed and crossed her arms. Her little body and death stare didn’t go together. She barely reached my knees. How could she look so menacing?
Her toes wiggled in the blood. “No shit you do. Who’d you kill this time?”
I gave her an innocent face. “Who, me? I’d never.”
She snorted. We both knew better.
“It wasn’t me. A guy raped a teenager, and she turned the tables on him.”
Beaut’s smile was like the evil twin to the Cheshire Cat’s, was off-putting. That wasn’t a face I’d want to see hovering over me when I woke up. That was how she killed her prey, by hovering over them while they woke up, then slitting their throat. Shenodded and splashed in the blood. “Good. I’ll clean this up for free and bathe in his blood at home.”
That got an un-lady-like snort out of me. “I’ll send you over gifts and food, anyway. How long? We don’t have much time. I got here before the Sinisters’ people, but they’ll be here soon.”
She tapped her green lips. “Maybe, ten minutes. Sit on the windowsill so you’re not in my way. I’ll check the whole place. These fancy places are always way too big hate a hotel if you ask me. Who needs two guest rooms, a kitchen andliving room when you are just staying a couple of days?” she mumbled to herself and shooed me away as she assessed the room. Her small green body swayed as she glanced around. When she moved, her body blurred with the speed.
I might be a freak that could never be in a relationship, but I’ve gained some good friends over the years. I just hoped I wasn’t getting her into something we couldn’t get out of. I was counting on us being lucky, and being out of there before anyone was the wiser.
Chapter
Eight
My phone buzzed again. I had to pick it up before Cole came after me. I took off my gloves and put them in a plastic bag that I kept in one of the many pockets in my pants. Before I had the chance to say anything, Cole screamed through the phone. “Are you out of your fucking mind?! Do you know who this is?!”
I cringed. “Cole, we can’t talk now, but I’ll call you on a secure line soon. All you need to know is I’m helping a young, abused girl.” I hung up.
I tapped my phone on my forehead. I was going to pay for that. Ghouls could hold grudges worse than a brownie.
I met Beaut because she had a grudge against one of my old enemies, so she teamed up with me. I thanked the stars when she turned to me with a smile and a sparkling clean floor underneath her.
“Done.”
That was faster than expected. It had only been five minutes. I stiffened, hearing the ding of the elevator down the hall.
“Get out of here, Beaut. I’ll talk to you later. Thanks,” I whispered as low as I could.
“Be careful,” she whispered back, disappearing.
I couldn’t portal in the hotel. I already used too much magic, so I opened the window and leapt out, but before I lost sight of the room, my gaze connected with a pair of red eyes that I knew, that I’d fantasized about on more than one occasion. Dominic. They crinkled in worry, but I was already gone.
My body fell through the wind, its icy embrace greeting me with open arms. Jumping from the fortieth floor wasn’t smart, unless you were me. I grinned and called on my pocket portal gift again. I hoped it appeared where I wanted it this time.
The yellow circle popped up way too close. It devoured me before I could clear my mind.
I slid into the portal. Magic covered me like a sticky blanket as I screamed. All my mind could think was,I hoped the fucking wolf Alpha and his daughter appreciated my help, even if I had no intention of telling them.
The smog was replaced by the scent of burning wood. I landed with all the grace of a donkey onto a hard body. A male grunted, and a female screamed followed right after. Great. Where the hell was I? My head was spinning, and I couldn’t see. Not clearing my mind before portaling had a price, my vision. It sucked all the color from my eyes until they were pure white.
“Daddy!” I female shrieked.
The male growled. Then he hauled me off the floor. I squirmed in a feeble attempt to get away, but my strength was also sapped out of me.
“Sir,” a man said after what sounded like a door opening. He wasn’t alone, the footsteps of several feet followed him. I heard the click of several guns’ safeties switching off all around me, but no one pulled the trigger. My heart thrashed around in my chest as if it could escape and fight for me. I did my best to slow it down. It didn’t matter what kind of supernaturals these were, acting like prey would only result in my death.
The man flung me around like a ragdoll until his strong hand wrapped around my throat. “I’ll take pleasure in killing who ever hired you, but first, I’ll tear you limb-from-limb to get answers.”
