Power surged as lights shimmered and two new energy forces joined my own. The babies’ innate magic flared to life, reaching out for mine. Focusing the combined energy into an offensive attack, I aimed for the omega, sending him into the brick wall behind him. The dagger flew off to the side in the blast. Now it was my dagger.
Slimy energy tentacles wrapped around the omega and held him against the wall. Uttering a spell, I sent the dagger flying toward my captor, stopping it centimeters from his flesh.
Whatever ward kept us docile before had been broken down sometime during his rant. My abilities were in full force, and the twins’ innate power knew it was needed to help us out of this situation. Seeing my babies lying there, fury overtook my focus, and my dragon growled, hungry for blood. My skin stretched as my shift began.
This omega is going to pay.
“Ollie, no.” Wolf’s growl reached my ears just as I was about to attack the omega. My goal was to watch him bleed out. Slowly and painfully. My mate’s roar pulled me out of my rage zone. Calmness settled within me as I shifted back to human.
“Wolf.” Running to my mate, I threw myself into his arms for a brief embrace before we went to our children.
GSC agents ran into the room and tried to figure out how to get to the mystery omega from the energy field I had him in.
We are safe. Let him go.
I let the energy field drop. GSC would be the team responsible for bringing justice after all. They arrested the omega who dared to try to hurt my family.
They are safe. We are safe. Mate came.
My dragon was right.
Chapter Nineteen
Wolf
After leaving the compound, we met at the training center to update the rest of the family. We would interrogate the guards we captured before handing them over to GSC. Alec was coming down with a few other agents to take in Sean and his accomplices.
Ollie, Rayne, Zander, and I were exhausted as we packed the conference room, readying to get home.
“I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you.” Ollie kissed me and buried his head into my chest. “I thought everything would be fine because it had been so long since anything happened.”
“I’m sorry, too. I should have thought harder about who it could have been. I didn’t think that the omega from the night of the wedding could be the one behind all the attacks. We only met that night and I didn’t even remember his name. He never entered my mind when looking into suspects.”
“It’s shitty that you didn’t remember, but it’s also widespread to forget anyone from your past after you meet your fated mate.” Ollie grabbed my hands. “We both should have remembered that omega since I was there when he left your room that morning.”
“You should have listened to me when I said to stay home or take a guard with you.”
“Yes. I should’ve. I think that we both can share a bit of the blame here. We all dropped the ball somewhere in this incident. We could brush off the blame and learn from this experience.”
“I think I can do that. If you can.”
I kissed my mate and held him in my arms for a moment before focusing on our children sleeping in their car seats. “They seem unperturbed by all of this.”
“Oh,” Ollie said. “We need to discuss these two and investigate if anyone else has experience with magic from ones so young. That defense I had over our assailant? Their energy merged with mine to pull that off. These two are stronger than any child I have ever met.”
“Xavier demonstrated intense power from a very young age,” I reminded him. “The coven has been researching the books to determine if this is unprecedented. Is this something new in the next generation, or something that we had lost in the past that is now reemerging? I think that perhaps it’s a bit of the latter.”
“That could be true. I would love to help reach out to other shifters and covens through GSC and determine if it’s widespread or just a side effect of mixing dragon families with wolves and witch blood.”
“Let’s get out of here.” Rayne picked up the sleeping Callie while his mate took Colin. “Zander and I are going to take the kids for the night. You two talk or jump each other’s bones. Just don’t make any more of these for a year or so, okay?”
“We’ll try our best,” Ollie joked back. I loved my omega’s laugh.
He’s safe.
“Are you sure you are okay with us taking Callie and Colin for the night?” Rayne touched Ollie’s arm. “I understand if you need to have them near. We thought you and Wolf would like time together after today’s events.”
“I am torn,” Ollie answered. “I want to keep them close but must be with Wolf alone. I trust you two. I would probably say no if anyone else offered, but I know you would kill for our babies if you had to.”
