“We researched and came up with one omega who may have had an issue with Wolf. His name is Sean Connors. His family has enough connections underground that he could have assembled a team of professionals to take his name to the grave.” Rayne showed us a picture on his tablet and shook his head.

Nausea rolled through me at the thought that I didn’t follow this one lead. Who would have thought that a one-night stand could be behind so much drama for my family?

“I was up front with him when we hooked up. I didn’t even remember his name until you showed me the picture. I can’t believe I didn’t think about looking into him. I just figured it couldn’t have been someone I had little interaction with besides that one-night stand.”

“I had no clue you two spent the night together, or I would have figured this out before. But who would have thought you were such a great fuck that an omega would become a stalker after just one night?” Rayne nudged me. I knew he was trying to lighten the mood, but I was still a dumbass for dropping the ball on the investigation.

“Seriously though, we had that one night. There was nothing between us besides that.”

“The omega has been obsessed with you for a while. A few of our acquaintances admitted his grand plan was to snag you that night. He thought he could make you fall completely in love. Unfortunately, for him, he never stood a chance once you met Ollie the next day.”

“I still don’t understand his goal with all the attacks.” Zander hugged Ollie from behind, and jealousy filled me that I couldn’t do the same to my omega.

“I don’t, either. And why wait a whole year to start messing with my family? Why not move on within that time frame?”

“Obsession makes people do some outrageous things. I’m not sure we’ll ever understand his plan. But let’s get Ollie and the babies. And, if Sean is there, try not to kill the fucker. We must ask him some questions and ensure we end this completely. And GSC should take custody of him when we finish our investigation.”

I needed the reminder not to kill the enemy. Since my mate and children were taken, my beast was demanding blood.

“Fuck. Fine, I promise not to kill him. But there may be blood drawn.” I held my fingers up in a Scout’s honor sign.

“Stop with the sign. You were never a Scout. Besides, I wouldn’t expect any less. I’m unsure I could promise the same if I were in your shoes.”

“I just want my Ollie and the babies back.” I closed my eyes and pictured their precious faces. I needed them to be safe.

“Do we know how many people Sean may have brought into this kidnapping mission?” Zander redirected the conversation.

“We were able to hack into some of his networks,” Simon informed us. “All of it was expertly encrypted, but we were able to find a lot out already. We already have a team apprehending some of his accomplices. Many were already taken out; he must not have wanted any loose ends or leads back to himself.”

“At this point, it might just be him and the dozen hired guards at this compound left. Only one other team of three people might still be working with him. We are working on locating them.”

“Who are the other team? Do we have any information on them?” I asked.

“They go by The Shadows. It’s a group of omegas the council has been following for a few months, according to Alec.” Zander pulled up a file that showed three innocent-looking omegas. “They seem to take jobs where the alpha has done something horrible to an omega, and legal justice has failed them.”

“Why hasn’t the council brought them in?” I didn’t think they would allow vigilante justice.

“So far, no one has been able to catch them. And there isn’t hard evidence that it is them. The case wouldn’t be strong enough against any one of the team yet.” Zander closed the file and shut down the laptop. “Besides, I think GSC doesn’t mind the help with the type of alphas being disposed of. Trust me when I say that there’s no loss to society. This is why I doubt the team accepted the job with Sean. They should have recognized this wasn’t their usual case.”

“It’s time to move.” Rayne looked at his tablet and motioned for us to get ready to head into the compound. “The team we sent to scope the area says they just saw Sean enter the building.”

Chapter Eighteen

Ollie

“Don’t worry, babies. Daddy will come to find us,” I whispered to the twins as they started to fuss again. Luckily, I had the diaper bag when these men abducted us from the mall, so I had diapers and formula for them. Thank the goddess for my habit of overpacking it. I don’t think these idiots would care if we ran out of the necessities.

I looked around the small room that they stuck us in. Cracked gray walls spoke of years of neglect. A small window near the ceiling, with iron bars covering it, suggested we were in a basement. That would explain the chill in the air.

I was glad I’d bundled the kids up this morning before leaving the house. They were still nice and cozy in their fuzzy teddy, jammies, and fake-fur jumpers. And the adorable crocheted blankets their uncle Zander made for them.

On the other hand, dampness chilled me to the bone. I had already tried to use my magic to heat the room a bit, but there seemed to be a ward in place that prevented me from using my abilities. A stronger magic weaver could have, but I was just an occasional dabbler, not a well-trained witch. I should take Rayne up on suggesting I train with him at the Survolar-Romano Center.

The babies had decided to nap again. My anxiety had me checking their breathing and unbuttoning them a bit so they didn’t overheat in their sleep. I had to try to come up with a plan to save all of us.

Wolf and the rest of the family would be on their way to save us. But I needed to be able to do it myself, just in case they arrived too late.

The room the kidnappers had placed us in was barren except for a bed and table. Luckily, the furniture and bedding looked clean and new. I was comfortable having my children lie on it. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much I could use as defensive or offensive weapons.
