“Everyone is okay though?” Ollie curled into me, allowing my big spoon to cocoon his backside.
“Everyone on our team is safe for now,” I reassured. “Now, can we get back to—”
Ollie guided my hand down his chest and his hardened cock.
“Yes, alpha,” Ollie purred. “Let’s get back to it.”
Chapter Eight
Ollie
The annoying tendrils of frustration clawed at me. There were no leads. Whoever was behind the attacks was either highly clever, especially powerful, or rich enough to cover their tracks.
Wolf and I sat at the conference table, poring over our information and trying to find new roads to go down. Rayne and Zander had already left the building, and only a few pack members remained. No further information popped up, no matter how often I stared at these files.
“You met with all the covens and looked for signs of deceit among their members,” I verified. “The packs and covens all came up clean as well.”
I picked up my travel coffee mug and grimaced. The once warm and inviting black brew was now cold. The scent of cinnamon was the only remaining good part. How long had we been in this room?I looked at my watch, shocked at the time.
“I keep reviewing the information but can’t develop solid leads.” Wolf rolled his head and shoulders. We needed to stretch after sitting at this conference room table for several hours. Even comfortable chairs with padding and adjustable positions wouldn’t keep our bodies from getting stiff.
I grew somber, staring at these same white pages with black ink in a gray room with no windows. Wolf arched his back, his shirt rising, revealing a glimpse of his perfectly sculpted abs. At least my mate was pretty to look at.
“I think we need to take a break,” I suggested. “It’s way past quitting time. We should stop for the night and get some food. Perhaps stepping away from this will help bring answers once we resume the research tomorrow morning.”
“That sounds like a good plan,” Wolf agreed. “Is there a particular food you would like?”
I answered immediately, “The answer will almost always be Mexican to that question.”
Wolf laughed and nodded. “I agree. There is a delicious Mexican restaurant about a mile away. They have the best tacos. Rayne once tried to stab Zander for attempting to steal his salsa, if that gives you an idea of its yumminess.”
“Take me to this haven and let me gorge myself on elotes and chicken enchiladas in mole sauce.” I widened my eyes pleadingly and blinked adorably at Wolf.
“Your wish is my command.” Wolf kissed me briefly and then grabbed his jacket.

He wasn’t kidding about the fantastic food the restaurant offered. And I wasn’t kidding when I told him I would gorge myself. The spices and atmosphere were compelling sensory experiences, the food pretty orgasmic, and the fact I got to spend time with my mate was the cherry on top. I didn’t want the lunch date to end.
“Do we have to go back?” I ate my fried ice cream dessert and drank my margarita.
“We probably should so we can continue looking for holes in someone’s story, but I’m strung out after this morning’s shift. We need to step back for the rest of the day and let the information we already searched linger in our brains, and something will leap out.”
“You have a point. Let’s do something mindless; a new angle will pop out at us. Any suggestions on a fun activity that won’t take much effort?”
“I have a few.” Wolf smirked at me with lifted eyebrows.
“Take me home, alpha.” I was on board with that.

As we pulled up, a lime-green pickup truck was parked outside the house. There would be a change to our plans.
“Sorry, alpha. We need to postpone the alone time for the night.”
“Why?”
“Alec is here.” I pointed to the obnoxious-colored atrocity ahead of us. “I didn’t know he was planning on coming so soon. He told me he would update me with his plans, but he didn’t. There’s no choice but to postpone sexy times when your best friend visits. It’s in the bro-code.”
