“You, too.” Ollie leaned over the bed and gave me a sweet but short kiss. “Now, get up and get dressed. I’m hungry.”
“Your wish is my command.” I put on my black jeans and gray Henley. “Let’s roll out.”
“Wait.” Ollie grabbed me by the collar and pulled me in for another kiss.
We wouldn’t be getting that pizza any time soon.
Chapter Ten
Ollie
“Pregnant.”
I stared at my doctor like he had grown a second head. I had to be hearing things. He couldn’t have said what I thought he said.Could he?
Told you?
My wolf pushed his thoughts at me. He’d been trying to tell me for about a week, but I wouldn’t listen. I should have.
Yes. You should have.
Hush.
“I’m on the suppressants,” I reminded my doctor. “How is this possible?”
Doctor Malcolm sighed. “Sorry, Ollie. I understand this must be a surprise, but this is very much real. I looked at your records. You got your last shot on the proper day. You did everything to plan. Unfortunately, that was the day that my assistant called off, and I had my nephew step in.”
“Okay,” I responded, unsure where he was going with this but starting to believe his nephew played a part in me ending up here.
“Well, Timmy confused two similarly spelled drugs, mislabeling them. No one noticed his mistake until this morning when I saw you were testing positive as well as another omega. It’s not typical to have two omegas who take their shots like clockwork suddenly turn up pregnant. Especially when the shots were delivered on the same day.”
“Oh no,” I said, seeing where he was headed with his story.
“Sorry, Ollie.” The doctor patted me on the shoulder like that would make it all better. “The names of the two drugs are very close. That is why we triple-check them. Sadly we were in a rush that day. The extra steps weren’t taken to ensure an incident like this wouldn’t occur. I apologize. I can talk to you about your options—”
“I’ll be keeping my baby,” I told the doctor. “I don’t need information on other options. I’m aware of them. This is my child, and I already know I’ll be raising this tiny one with love with my mate. It’s just a shock. I never thought I’d go in for my yearly exam and learn that I’d be a parent in a few months.”
“I understand,” the doctor responded. “Again, I want to tell you that we are truly sorry that the error happened. We understand if you would like a referral to another physician or if you need to file a complaint. We’ve already started following up with the other patients who may have been affected, and my nephew will never work in the medical field again.”
“I’ll let you know if I need another doctor, but can we check on the pregnancy while I’m here? I haven’t acted exactly as a pregnant omega should, and now I’m anxious I did something to cause damage.”
“We can take a look,” the doctor said. “Do you have someone to call and do this with you, or do you want to do this and return with the other parent if needed?”
“I don’t think I can wait,” I said. “If Wolf wants, he can return another day with me.”
“Wolf Romano?” Doctor Malcolm asked. “Huh. I never thought he’d settle down.”
“Yeah,” I said flippantly. “We’re just going to forget his past, all right, Doc? I’m his fated mate, and this is his future baby.”
“I get that.” Doctor Malcolm hung his head sheepishly. “I won’t mention something like that again. I apologize. Now, let’s see this baby.”
The doctor put gel on my stomach and placed the wand on the still-flat surface.
“And there we are.”
I looked at the screen, at the two small dragon eggs. They were perfect.
“We won’t be able to view them inside the eggs, but from the measurements, I would say that you are four weeks along. The eggs look healthy. No signs of complications.”
