I lower my gaze and look at this scary creature that just gave me one of the best orgasms ever. How could I not listen to him? It seems as if all those years when I felt alone and uncared for would be pushed away by those guys.
“Yes, sir.”
“Good girl. Now open your legs. I’m going to clean you all over.”
I release a sharp breath. His gentle touch is as delicious as his firm one.

“Mrez, are you taking the cat or the guy in the trunk?”
Mrez walks over to me with the cell phone in his hand. “Look at this.”
We both lean against the car. Mrez keeps scrolling through the phone. I stare at some type of map and a few messages the dead guy exchanged with other people. “What am I looking at?”
Mrez’s eyes light up. “From what I can gather, we’re in deep shit. Look at all these messages. The Church of Light has grown its numbers. I have no idea how large they are, but in this area alone we’re talking about thousands.”
“They’ve always attracted the gullible.”
“They raised the Dark Church again.”
Panic rises in my chest. I pull the phone out of Mrez’s hand and start scrolling, not sure what I’m looking for. The Dark Church is a legend, a scary story to make little Shadows behave. According to the story, once it rises, The Dark Church can swallow all the Shadows and keep them captive, feeding on their energy until the end of time.
“That can’t be true. The Dark Church is only a legend.”
“Well, it looks as if it’s a reality, and we’re the ones who’ll have to deal with it because they want Ivy as a sacrifice.”
“Over my dead body. I’ll rip their chests open and eat their livers.”
I’m going crazy. Shit. It doesn’t often happen that creatures of nightmares feel scared. We’re the ones that bring the fear. We’re the catalyst that find the right cracks inside the humans’ psyche and feed on the nightmare we produce.
“If they have the church, the artifact, and the sacrifice, they’ll gain control over the power of dreams. You do realize what force that would unleash?” Mrez tried to sound calm, but it didn’t work for him either.
“Let’s enjoy that we got Ivy back, even if it’s only the calm before the storm.”
Mrez shrugged. He’s the youngest and I’m protective of him.
“Mrez, let’s keep this between the three of us. I don’t want to scare Ivy more than she already is. We can’t talk to her about the end of the world, at least not right now.”
Mrez nods. I can count on his silence and discretion. He loves Ivy at least as much as I do. “You’re right. We don’t need to upset Ivy. And I’ll take the body if you take the damn cat.” Mrez adds with a sheepish smile.
“Coward,” I laugh as I crack the hatch slowly and grab that damn cat. Powder hisses at me and swipes his paw against my hand. I pull back my hand, inspecting the damage done by those little claws.
“Hey, you.”
Two golden eyes peer back from the corner of the trunk. The damn thing hisses at me again.
“You, Demon. Get over here.”
Powder jumps over the dead guy, flies, out of the trunk, and runs between my legs in a straight line toward the house.
“Hey.” This time, I hiss at it, allowing my true shape to show.
And that little nasty fucker hisses back.
“Come back here.”
I launch myself toward the cat, ready to catch it, but the creature runs like crazy. Mrez shifts into his Shadow shape and appears in front of the damn cat, wrapping it in grey tendrils of smoke that form a crate made of tentacles. It’s funny to watch.
