Ramy stood in front of me and kissed me, a sweet tender kiss. It had no erotic feel to it. It felt as if he wanted to let me know I was a belonging. That night, I felt closer to this bunch of strangers that I ever felt to the community on the space station.

The only dark hole in my chest was Van.

I spoke a prayer toward whatever Gods would listen that he was still alive.

May’s voice broke my reverie. “Pandora, you have to hurry. We’re late.”

I looked at my body dressed in a fight suit. It made me look strong, as if I had any idea of what I was doing.

“May, I need to know more. What’s going on? What happened to my friends?”

“Your friends are safe. I can’t tell you more than that because it’s all I know.”

Her cat-like features looked sad. I wanted to pet her long, golden hair and her pointy small ears that ended in a small bush of hair. I had not thought about what happened between us last night. Then I caught her eyes shifting from my ass to my breasts. I blushed. I never had sex before but, between the Anubis and the Bastet, it would be a hard choice to make.

May took my hand and pulled me after her.

“Hey, easy. I can walk well enough by myself.”

May looked down on me. “Sorry, Pandora. I will pace myself.”

As we walked through tall hallways, I couldn’t stop myself from admiring how beautiful this place was, far more luxurious than I could have ever imagined. Gold and precious gems sparkled everywhere. The floor was constructed of some sort of stone that changed color with each step we took. Light floated through the area. My pale skin had taken on a rosy glow since I arrived here, and I love the way sunshine feels. My long, black hair floated over my soft, caramel-colored shoulders. I watched may’s tail move, whipping like a cat’s tail. I almost pet her.

We stopped. Or rather, I stumbled into May’s tall and graceful figure as she stopped in front of a tall door made of gold and encrusted with gems. The door depicted battle scenes between the Anubis, Bastet, and other creatures I didn’t recognize.

May touched the surface and the door slid open. May stood there as if she didn’t dare cross the threshold. “I can’t enter. This is your area.”

“Okay, that’s not weird at all.”

The doors opened into a garden. Two walls stood to the right and left of me. The opposite wall was so far away it was out of sight. Trees stood tall and proud in front of me, tress I had never seen in movies but still looked strangely familiar. I touched the thick trunk of the nearest tree. The bark was cool, colored in shades of brown with blue veins running through it. I craned my neck trying to see the sky but there where so many trees it was impossible.

“Duck!” a voice calmly called out to me.

A spear flew towards me. I threw myself to the ground, the tip of the weapon barely missing penetrating my belly.

“Hey, space rats, what’s wrong with you?”

I was already on the ground. The hard ground and stones that stuck out hurt my knees and my palms.

A tall guy approached me with a smug smile on his face. He is Bastet, looking like a huge cat but in a hot, predatory way. His smile showed his white, sharp fangs. His onyx eyes focused on me. His body was muscular and lean, covered in short fur colored in shades of dark brown, black, and white. The shades looked intriguing and I was fascinated by them. He was tall. His chest was so wide I wasn’t sure that I could put my arms around him. He had long, thick brown hair worn in a long braid held together by golden rings. He wore gold-colored pants and looked smug as fuck. His torso was naked. My eyes focused on his strong muscles and rock-hard abs. He reminded me of the samurai of the old world. Something in his facial expression made him look familiar.

“Why are you trying to kill me?”

“Everything and everyone in the Game will try to kill you. Only one contestant makes it out. The others are lost forever, their blood feeding the unknown creatures that guard the secret of our ancestors.”

“Yeah, but that still doesn’t explain throwing a spear right into me.”

The hot cat man kneeled in front of me, his face so close to mine I wanted to drown in his deep onyx eyes. “There will be no warning in the Game, no mercy, no understanding. You learn fast or you die. I’m here to teach you whatever I can in the brief time we have.”

“Why should I believe you?”

His lips almost touched mine and a low, feral purring vibrated through our bodies. My throat went dry quickly and my treacherous body responded to the proximity of this predator. Why was I tempted to wrap my legs around him and rub myself against him like a cat in heat against a tree?

Instead of doing that, I used my force and tried to show him off me, but that only pressed my body into him. He touched my neck with his mouth and I melted. Then a sharp pain sent shivers through my body.

“Space rats! What the fuck?”

“I could have ripped your throat out. You should always protect your weakest points.”
