Silver’s black eyes sparkled, and she met mine. “I could use a bit of help from someone who knows the area.”

“We’re not hitmen,” River snapped. “And after that freaky stuff, we need more information.”

“Fair enough,” Silver responded in a sweet tone.

River almost choked on his stew.

I had to say something before things became even more awkward.

“We’ll gladly help you, if possible, but it depends on what you’re talking about. The law is something we don’t mind-bending, but our services are not cheap.”

Silver smiled. “I can pay. I have gold, silver, credit cards, bitcoin. You name it.”

She opened a small bag hidden under her leather jacket and pulled out four thick coins. Gold coins.

“Is this a trick?” River looked confused. “Are we being pranked?”

“I can take off my glove and you can give the prank another try.”

“Nah, we're good.” River leaned back.

“Jacks?”

“Silver, I was sure I know most of the creatures that lurk around, but you’re different. I like to know what I am dealing with.”

Silver bit her lip again. “I’ll tell you what I can. Some things I can’t. Believe that my intentions are honorable.”

I nodded. She so enthralled me, I almost jumped to my feet, asking her to point me toward the guy she needed killed, no questions asked.

“I’m a Demon. My father is.…” She paused. “Important. A necklace was stolen from me, and the person who has it is, is here on Earth. This necklace means the world to me. It’s all I have of my Mother.”

Silver looked down. Long lashes shadowed her eyes and her pouty lips made me want to kiss her.

“That’s it? You need to find a necklace?” Drae asked. He had a knack for picking up a lie and nodded toward me. She wasn’t directly lying to our faces but lying by omission is also a lie. As much as my cock wanted to bury myself inside her, she wasn’t honest.

River pushed his light blonde hair back. River and I are like two sides of a coin. He’s the one with the good looks and the golden hair of our mother while I’m more like dad. Still, I’ve never been envious of his looks and the ease he had around women. I wish I could be so cool, but I can’t. For me, sex means connecting and opening up, giving access to my soul while I get to know hers. For River, it’s just fucking.

That ability I do envy.

Silver was about to say something, but River jumped in. “Wait, are you saying you’re from--?” He gestured toward the floor.

“It’s not down there. Our dimensions co-exist in different planes. It’s not the way Christian myths describe it. There’s nothing ‘down there.’ But yes, I’m from what you call Hell.”

“Wow!” River was surprised. I was surprised. The demons we encountered were primarily feral, ugly fuckers, creatures whose sole purpose was to kill and eat. But this…. Silver was not like that.

“Why did you burn River, and how?”

Silver shrugged. I could see her thinking about how to respond.

“It’s part of me, like built-in armor. If someone touches me, they burn. There’s nothing I can do about it.”

The leather clothing made sense now. Her body was covered in it even though it was an uncomfortable hot Florida evening. Yet, she wasn’t sweating.

“You don’t sweat.” Drae said it, a bit of amusement in his eyes. Drae had his fair share of issues and usually wouldn’t talk to anyone if he didn’t know the person. Still, he spoke to Silver.

Silver shrugged and rubbed her hands across her jacket. “It’s cold here. I’m used to heat.”

She started to pin her hair back in an unconscious move. “The hair burns, too, as you saw with Razor.”
