Caspian looked down at his feet, then raised his eyes and met mine. “You’re never going to do this ever again. Am I clear?”
“And if I do, then what?” My other hand itched. I wanted to slap him again. The bastard deserved it.
I moved fast, but my hand never connected with his face. Instead, he threw me over his shoulder and slapped me on my ass.
“I’ll treat you like a grown Demon and love and respect you, but only when you start to behave maturely. Stop fighting me. I’m not your damn enemy. Talk to me.”
I felt my face getting red. Anger rose inside me and something broke deep within. The anger turned into fear and the fear into pain. What if I never find my necklace? What if my Mother doesn’t want to see me? What if my Dad finds out about the guys and has them killed? Why do I feel so close to Caspian?
The liquid anger morphed into tears. My body started to shake. Caspian cradled me against his muscular chest.
“Damn, Silver. I didn’t want to make you cry.” He kept kissing my head and held me in his arms. When I opened my eyes, I saw we were inside his car. He moved his thumb over my cheeks, drying my tears.
“How about we start this anew. I’m on your side.”
I tried to inhale, but a deep sob shook my chest so badly it hurt.
Caspian opened the glove compartment and took out something. “Here.”
“What is it?”
“A chocolate bar. Go on. It helps.”
He even unwrapped the caramel and cookie goodness. The moment I bit into it, the sweetness hit the right spot and I moaned. I ate the chocolate, and he watched me, his eyes focused on my face. It was exciting to have him study me.
“I used to dream of you and have visions of you,” he whispered.
“I never had any visions. I wish I had.”
“The Fates are testing us.”
“I assume.”
“Why are you on Earth?”
“I had a necklace. It was from my Mother, and it got stolen. I always believed my Mother was dead, but I found out she’s not. She just decided to leave my Father. I know I can find her, only I need that damn necklace, and whoever stole it wants to keep it. They keep running with it. And someone sent a Harpie to stop me from finding out more. I’m at the end of my wits. The mutant shifters attack Incubi and Succubi, and I want to know why. These Demons normally have no natural enemies. Lilith is my last chance.”
I exhaled. Caspian put his hands on mine. He looked at me, removed my gloves, and held my hands in his, skin on skin. His eyes looked warm. I wanted to put my head on his chest and forget everything.
“You’re missing one piece of information. Your necklace is more than just jewelry. It’s a key. A portal opener. And it’s part of your Mother’s powers.”
“What do you know of my Mother?”
“Not much. I just put the information I had together. There’s a rumor that a precious item, a key, was stolen. And here you are looking for your necklace. Makes sense, right?”
“Do you know my Mother?”
“Sadly, no. As you know, our Fathers are not friends, not even a little.”
“Yeah, our marriage will help create an alliance.” I chuckled. “How romantic.”
“Yeah, I know. But I want to be married to you, no matter what our fathers say. Both our kingdoms could use peace to thrive. I’m going to help you and will always be by your side. Now, what’s with the mon... I mean, guys?”
“Were you about to call my friends mongrels?”
Caspian smiled. His darkness felt softer and more beautiful. “Yes, but I’m working on it. So long as it’s clear that you’re mine, only mine, I can behave myself with your friends.”
I had to swallow. I didn’t plan on going into details about what happened between me and Jacks, Preach and River. I bit my lower lip. I mean, we didn’t fuck, at least not in the classic sense.
