“My lady, what that means to me, you can’t imagine.”
“Where do I find Lilith in New Orleans?”
“On Bourbon Street, my lady. Her place is called Nail of the Coffin.”
“I’ll remember you. I owe you one.” Silver dismissed him with a wave of her hand.
Shak threw himself on the floor, kissing Silver's boot. All the other guys cast their eyes down as if they wouldn’t dare to look at her.
“Jacks, I’m hungry. Let’s go have a bite to eat somewhere.”
“I know just the place.”
When I swung my leg over the hog, and she wrapped her arms around me, my heart beat like crazy, making it difficult to breathe. Why did I feel like this when she was close by. I sensed River’s eyes on her.
We rode towards our favorite pizza place and sat down in our booth. Some places feel right in a certain way.
River once again spoke first. “Why are those guys hunting you?”
Silver took a slice of pizza and pulled at the cheese with her long, slender fingers.
“Have you done anything that would justify you getting hunted by a pack of Demons?”
“Don’t make such a big deal about it, River. A few lower Demons are hunting me, no big deal.”
“River, stop.”
River threw me a dark look, then took a slice of pizza and chewed it in resentment.
The waitress came over and smiled. “Hi, guys. So glad to see ya’ll again. What else can I bring you?”
“We’re good, thank you,” River said with a smile.
“Silver, someone is hunting you,” I whispered. “And if whoever sent one group of Demons to retrieve you, he or she will send more.”
I looked at her, waiting. Watching. She said nothing, instead chewing on her slice of pizza and sipping her beer.
“That’s good pizza. And we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
Drae cleared his throat. He was never chatty, but this had changed since meeting Silver. When she was around, he seemed eager to talk to her, tell her things.
“Do you actually know Lilith? Are we going to meet her in New Orleans?”
Silver wasn’t pleased with the way things shifted in the conversation. Her hand was on my upper thigh. She dropped it there as if she didn’t even notice, but hot damn, I did. My cock throbbed just from feeling her so close to me, inhaling her scent. If I could, I would have thrown dropped her on the table and taken her madly and wildly there and then.
“Lilith and my father had, or more appropriately, have an on-and-off thing. They broke up ten years ago. If we go see Lilith, we can’t go empty-handed.”
“Meaning?” River asked to catch her attention. I saw that my baby brother was hunting, and his sight was set on Silver.
“Meaning Lilith is a gorgeous Demon who likes pretty things. I have to go buy her something pretty.”
“Do you hate her? I mean, from what I gather, she’s like your step-mom.”
“No, River, I don’t hate Lilith. Gods, why would I hate her? She’s more like the cool aunt you wish you had. You guys will meet her. She’s fun.”
“I’ll reserve plane tickets for tomorrow,” Drae whispered.
“I’d rather not,” said Silver. “I have a distaste for flying. I’d rather drive. You guys can fly, and we meet there.”
