I pivoted to face her, noting that she held a bottle of alien whiskey in one hand. “I came to—”

“Let me guess, you came to tell me how you didn’t mean to go after the captain—again.”

That might have been what I had originally intended to say, but seeing her hands trembling as she set the bottle onto her desk banished those words from existence. She was trying to appear tough, but her chest heaved and there were red marks on her wrists from where the human captain had grabbed her.

I would not be apologizing now or ever.

“No,” I growled, stepping inside her room. “I came here to tell you that the next time someone—anyone—puts their hands on you, I will not just strike them down, I will end them. I do not care if they are from Earth. I do not care if they outrank me. I do not care if I get thrown in the dungeons. I will never let anyone hurt you again.” I held her gaze as her eyes widened. “That is a promise.”

I waited for her to snap back at me and tell me that I was out of line and that it was not my job to protect her, that she did not need protecting. But instead, she launched herself into my arms and curled her legs around my waist as I caught her.

She crushed her lips to mine in a hard kiss, pulling back to lock eyes with me for a moment. “I need one more promise from you.”

I managed to nod even though I was too stunned to speak.

“Fuck me hard.”

A snarl escaped from my mouth as I ran one hand through her long hair and fisted it. “I promise.”

Chapter

Fifty

Fiona

My entire body trembled as Vyk held me, one hand tangled in my hair and his eyes blazing with a hunger that almost made me think twice. There had been no doubt in my mind that giving in to my own desires was playing with the most uncontrollable type of fire, the kind that spread indiscriminately and scorched everything in its path.

But I didn’t care. I’d wanted Vyk since the moment I’d seen him. I’d wanted to run my hands through his silvered hair, I’d wanted to feel the scratch of his beard on my cheeks, I’d wanted to let the husk of his voice slide down my spine and send shivers through me. And it didn’t matter to me that he wasn’t a fan of humans, or even that he’d been a colossal ass to me.

I still wanted him. I needed him. I needed to burn off my irrational desire for him.

Vyk held my head back and locked eyes with me. “You are sure?”

I gave a frustrated twitch of my head and felt the sting of his fingers knotted in my hair. “Yes, I’m sure. I need you to fuck me now.”

With a growl, he set upon my neck, his teeth scoring my sensitive skin as he alternated between kissing and biting. I tightened my legs around his waist, arching back and moaning. Every touch of his fingers, his lips set my flesh ablaze and jangled my pulse.

I couldn’t be still, so I raked my own fingers through his hair, scraping hard until he loosed a deep, rumbling sound and raised his head to meet my gaze.

“Flexing your claws, I see,” he murmured as he walked me over to my bed and dropped me on it. I bounced, but before I could reach for him, Vyk flipped me onto my stomach and pinned me down by straddling my hips.

I twisted around to protest, but he bent forward and captured my mouth in a kiss that startled me with its ferocity. He parted my lips and tangled his tongue with mine, stroking it as he curled a hand around my throat. His hand slid down the length of my neck and dipped below the neckline of my top, his fingers slipping beneath the fabric of my bra and gently teasing one of my nipples as he continued to kiss me.

I moaned, bowing back as he moved his hand to my other breast and circled the tight peak until I was groaning into hismouth. But just as forcefully and suddenly as he’d started to kiss me, he stopped. I gasped, breathless but hungry for more.

Vyk moved off me as I tried to regain my normal breath, but he was not done with me. He grabbed me by the hips and pulled me up so that I stood flush to him. Then he spun us both around and turned me to face him. He lifted my face to his, kissing me gently before moving me a few steps away from him and sitting down on the edge of the bed.

“Undress for me.”

I stared at him for a few moments, suddenly awash with self-consciousness. “You don’t want to do it?”

He gave a curt shake of his head, his eyes molten as they seared into me. “I want to watch you.”

My heart caught in my chest, but then I locked eyes with him. Desire radiated off him in waves, and as I saw myself through his eyes, I started to move.

I unbuttoned my shirt, never looking away from him as I teased him by slowly slipping it off my shoulders and letting it fall to the floor. I ran my fingers over my bra, circling my hard nipples until they strained against the sheer black fabric. “Like this?”

Vyk’s pupils were so huge they’d swallowed every bit of the iris as his gaze traced my movements like an animal stalking his prey. His jaw was tight, a muscle throbbing on the side when I slipped my fingers beneath the fabric of my bra and softly flicked my nipples. He grunted without forming a word.
