A tiny spark of hope appeared in my chest.
Chapter 18
Scott
The next day my mood was precariously better. This hope felt fragile and precious, and I wanted to nurture and protect it long enough to see it grow.
Antony, Eliot, and I were making our daily trek from our dorm to the buildings our classes were held, talking normally until I stopped in my tracks and stared.
There was a big grassy area we always walked by where people sometimes worked out. Today, the entire boxing team was here.
And that included Travis.
“Isn’t that your…arch-enemy?” Antony asked, mindful of his words since there were several other people walking around us.
“Should we go closer?” Eliot suggested and without even answering, I stepped out of our path and went to the edges of the training area.
There were other students watching them train, so we didn’t really stand out. The boxers were spread out all over the place, doing different drills and boxer things I didn’t really understand. But I didn’t really need to. My whole attention was on one person only.
Travis was on the furthest side from us. He was wearing one of those baggy t-shirts with wide armholes that somehow still managed to press mouthwateringly to his body, showcasing his impressive biceps as he jabbed against empty air. Shadow boxing, I thought that was called.
He looked surprisingly graceful, focused. Like one of those punches could be lethal.
There were three other younger guys around him, probably newbies, who he was talking to. Even from here, I could tell they were watching him with stars in their eyes, nodding and trying to mimic him before the man I assumed to be the coach came over and shooed Travis away.
I watched, mesmerized as he made his way to a small bench, where he took a bottle of water, holding it high while he drank.Fuck, Travis was hot. It made my cock stir, but I couldn’t look away as Andy nudged him, making Travis spit out and push Andy back with a laugh.
“Your tongue is hanging out, man. Better reign that in,” Antony said. I wasn’t even looking at him but I could hear the smile in his voice.
“It’snot.” It wasn’t, right?
“Dude, how did we never see it? It’s just soobvious.”
I finally took my eyes away from Travis to send Eliot a hard look, when something caught my eye.
Mark.
He was staring right at me.
Mark was standing further ahead on the path to the college buildings, his friends watching the boxers. But nothim. He was staring at me intensely.
Did he catch me watching Travis? Was he getting suspicious or something?
I couldn’t read his expression. And before I could ask my friends about it, someone talked to him and Mark laughed, turning and walking away.
Antony and Eliot had been talking while I was having this small breakdown, and I came back to reality as Eliot nudged me.
“What do you say?”
“About what?”
“Doing a small get-together thing with your arch-enemy.”
I blinked. “Aget-together?”
“Yeah, you know. We want to get to know him,” Eliot shrugged but definitely failed at looking cool and unbothered.
“Right.”
