“Is it poisoned?” Eliot asked, dark eyebrow raised.
Travis sent him a slightly menacing smile. “Only with my spit.”
“Uh, maybe I don’t want it then.” He looked at Antony. “You can have it, Ant.”
“Me?You bought it, now eat it.”
It was still in Travis’s hand, and feeling impulsive and more than a little reckless, I took hold of Travis’s wrist and brought the cupcake to my mouth, taking a huge bite.
“Edible,” I said as I chewed. “You can have it now.”
Eliot and Antony watched me with strange expressions on their faces. “That’s only half a freaking cupcake!”
“Should have taken it the first time, El,” I said lightly.
It was weird—being myself with my friendsandTravis. Because I never felt like I had to pretend with him.
On the contrary, he was starting to make me feel bolder.
And the way Travis’s lips stretched into a mischievous smile didn’t help. “If you wanted my spit in your mouth so badly, you only had to ask.”
My heart was beating loudly in my ears. The dick was gathering spit, as if to put it on top of the cupcake, but I just reached with my hand to cover his mouth and with the other I took the cupcake to hand it to Eliot.
I had to restrain a groan when I felt his tongue lick my palm.
Antony watched us closely for a long moment, and I could almost see the cogs working in his head.
Yeah, my friends definitely thought we were up to something, but they didn’t ask just yet. I was fucking grateful, because I didn’t know what I would tell them if they did.
Once we set the record straight, the animosity between us began fading, Travis started becoming more playful, and I became all too aware that this side of him was my kryptonite. It was even worse than his broody, intimidating self.
Once they left, Travis pushed me against the sink, like he loved to do, and smiled at me like the cat that got the cream. “Were you jealous?”
“Of your flirting with my friend? Definitely not.”Definitely yes.
I could at least admit it to myself. Travis’s playful side was still very much new to me, and I ate up every moment like a glutton.
“You secretly do,” he said, licking a trail up my neck and sucking on my earlobe. It tugged a shudder out of me. “But it’s okay, I secretly like that you do.”
He dropped that bomb, then turned when there was the sound of approaching footsteps.
I didn’t know what we were doing or where we were going, but I was too tired to fight everything in my life, and for once, I just wanted to enjoy the moment.
Chapter 11
Travis
“So…” My sister tapped her fingers against the car door, stalling instead of getting out. “You and Scott seem to be on good terms.”
Was she trying to be subtle? Because it didn’t work. I could bet she spent the entire dinner we had with our mother ruminating, biding her time until she got me alone to bring this up.
We were both sitting in my car right in front of her apartment, the engine running, streetlights illuminating the interior of the car as I opened my window slightly to let the cool evening air freshen my thoughts.
“So we are.” I turned the music off and stopped the car, making myself comfortable in the driver’s seat. We were going to be here a while at least.
She looked at me closely, like a criminologist or some shit, watching for any twitches, any signs of lies or secrets I was keeping.
“You looked very comfortable together the other night.”
