Logan and Silas stared at each other in silence. After a moment, Silas nodded back at his enemy. “Let’s go,” he said.
He jumped off the wall with Lukas following right behind him, and they took off on a run into the woods. The world blurred around us. I wanted to ask Silas about the exchange he had just shared with Logan, but for now I needed to close my eyes and focus on not getting nauseous as the world around me moved by at a pace overwhelming to my human senses.
I would have to restrain my curiosity for now. I was certain of one thing though;Silas’ decision to break me out would have dire consequences, not only for us but all of Estone as well.
Chapter Twelve
Silas
I paced the living room in Grace’s apartment back in the palace, mumbling curses to myself. Red-hot rage boiled in my veins; pure fury that Logan Sherman had dared to kidnap my wife, that he had kept her in a damp dungeon.
As far as I could tell no physical harm had come to her, but her rapid heartbeat told me she was still stressed by the situation – and who could have blamed her?
Right now Grace was taking a bath in the bathroom. I wasn’t ready to leave her presence, but I hadn’t gotten the sense that she wanted me to bathe with her, so I had opted to linger in her bedroom instead.
Luke leaned on the doorframe, watching me pace around the room, an amused expression curving his lips.
“What’s so funny?” I snapped as I stopped right in front of him.
Luke and I looked each other in the eyes until my friend’s gaze lost its cheerfulness.
“Nothing,” he finally said. “Take good care of your wife, will you?”
“Of course,” I said through clenched teeth. “What else would you expect?”
“I mean,” he huffed. “She’s been through a lot. I get that you want to reassure yourself that she’s alive, but be gentle with her. Don’t scare her.”
I realized what he meant. True, I now felt particularly possessive of Grace – I craved to hold her in my arms, to listen to the shimmer of her blood. No, who was I kidding? I wanted tofuck her, to mark her as mine, to make her come and think only of me so our time together now could overshadow her recent terrible memory.
I nodded at Luke. I had no words to express what I felt.
A gentle smile appeared on my friend’s lips. He extended his hand to me and gripped my bicep, giving me a reassuring squeeze. “Grace is safe now. Everything’s going to be fine.”
“What about Logan’s threat?” I wasn’t convinced. “What if he really does retaliate?”
“Then we will deal with the new situation when it comes. Just like we’ve always done. We’re adaptable and flexible, are we not?” Luke chuckled.
I smiled. “Right, we are.”
“I’ll leave you two be. Have fun, and remember – be gentle,” he said.
I rolled my eyes. “Alright.”
Luke walked out of Grace’s apartment, closing the door gently behind him.
A few minutes later Grace came out of the bathroom wearing a comfy set of pajamas bearing the design of a cute cat jumping up to catch some yarn. Her hair had been freshly blow-dried and was still slightly damp.
Her eyes widened when she saw me in her bedroom.
“Hey,” I greeted her with a soft smile. Be gentle.
She opened her mouth then closed it. “You’re still here?” She gave me a look full of confusion.
I strode forward, stopping in front of her. I raised my hand and cupped her cheek in my palm.
Grace leaned into the touch.
“If you don’t mind, I’d like to spend the day with you,” I said.
