“Sarah.” She extended her hand with a wide smile. “You talked to Hazel.”

“Clearly.” I shook her hand. “Is she always such a delight to talk to?”

Sarah's laughter echoed in the room. The two other girls stared at her. They probably didn’t like the competition. Chicks were crazy.

“She can be even worse,” Sarah said once she stopped laughing, “but she can also be better. Not a lot, but sometimes.”

“Cool.” Elliot sounded impressed.

I shot him an annoyed look and moved the redhead girl out of my way to pour another beer. I wasn’t planning on getting shitfaced, but Hazel threw me off my game. I didn’t understand why her attitude was getting to me. The two girls finally realized they were being deadweight, shot nasty looks at Sarah, left.

“Sorry I scared off your entertainment for tonight,” she giggled once they were out of earshot.

A laughter escaped me. “I can easily find another one, don’t worry.”

“Oh, I know that.”

I took a deep breath and stared at Sarah. She was flirting and to my surprise it made me uncomfortable. All week I kept thinking of Hazel, her friend. I couldn’t stand there and chat her up knowing what she wanted. I was regularly hooking up with girls, but I had some morals.

“Listen, Sarah. Don’t waste your charm on me, you are not my type.”

Elliot chortled while the girl laughed.

“Not even for a night?”

“Sorry, babe, but no,” I winked at her, easing my words and the shock on her face.

“I’m free, if you want,” Elliot offered, putting an arm around her shoulders. She looked up at him and shook her head.

“I’m shocked.”

“It happens to the best of us,” I said, sipping my beer with my eyes focused on the approaching Ice Queen. “Right, Hazel?”

“Whatever you say is not true,” she said, putting her cup of water onto the table and crossing her arms. Her crop top rode up even more, exposing her toned abs. Thinking of it, she did have a dancer’s body, and it didn’t help my already over-active brain. “Sarah, we are leaving.”

“Already? We just got here…”

“Your friend is having fun; you should try and have fun too,” I suggested.

“I am trying, that’s why we are leaving,” she replied with her sweet mean smile. I really wanted to wipe that smile off her face. Preferably with my lips.

“Yeah, I’m staying with Elliot,” Sarah interrupted, wrapping her arms around my friend. “You can go.”

“Fine by me.” Hazel shrugged. “I’m locking the door, so make sure he lets you stay the night, because you are sleeping in the corridor.”

“Hazel.” Sarah grabbed her best friend’s arm and dragged her into a half hug, while Elliot’s arm still hung around her. “Stay with me.”

“Not sure your nighttime partner is up for a threesome,” she replied dryly.

Her comment made me chuckle, but it left me wondering how she could be so cool.

“I wouldn’t complain,” Elliot wiggled his brows. “Both of you can come into my bed.”

“I thought this party was a nightmare, but your offer is the ultimate nightmare.”

“You hurt my ego,” my friend grunted, and it made me laugh.

“Don’t worry, your friend already knows how that feels,” she said looking up at me, her dark eyes glimmering with mischief.
