“Thanks.” He was wearing an ear-to-ear grin. “Want to play another time as well?”
“Sure, anytime, kiddo.” I gave him a smile and he turned to spring towards Coach who was talking to Hazel.
“Hey, Hazel,” I called her out walking towards them. “Are you coming to the party?”
She walked down a few steps and met me halfway. “No,” she answered with her sweetest mean smile.
“You should come. It would be fun. Do you know what fun means?” I lifted a brow and rested my foot on the ball.
“Fun is not being in your company,” she replied with the same smile. “And didn’t you get trashed enough yesterday?”
A laugh escaped me. “Now you spy on me?”
“Don’t flatter yourself, Hitchings.” She lifted her eyes to the sky before looking back at me, amusement dancing in her eyes. “News travels fast on campus.”
“Yet you still manage to stay out of it.”
She sighed dramatically. “You could as well, but you just love the attention.”
“Hazel, we are leaving.” Coach walked over to us and Sky hugged his sister. Even if she acted like a bitch, she and Sky were adorable together.
“Okay, see you soon.” She kissed her brother’s hair and smiled. “I’m coming home for lunch tomorrow.”
“I will let your mother know.” Coach nodded and gave me a quick look. “Good night, Aiden.”
“Night, Coach.” I watched as they left, and Hazel had her eyes on them as well. “About the party…”
“No,” she looked at me again. “Why would I want to hang out with you in my free time?”
“We are friends,” I pointed out with a grin.
“No. We work together. I’m friendly with you, but we are not friends.”
“And you are not friendly,” I pointed out again.
“I have better things to do.”
“Name one,” I challenged her, and her face fell as the wheels in her mind spun.
“Not hanging out with you.”
“Come on, ice queen.” I nudged her shoulders and ignored the electricity buzzing through my body. My pants were uncomfortable. “Let’s get a few drinks into you, maybe it will melt your walls.”
Hazel took a deep breath and shook her head, before another excuse left her pretty pink lips. “I promised my friend Sarah I would hang out with her.”
“Bring her too.” I lifted a shoulder as if I’m unbothered, but deep down my excitement was growing. I wanted her to come to that party. I needed her to come. I wanted to finally find out all her secrets and see what was hidden deep down under that huge iceberg.
“We’ll see,” she called over her shoulders as she turned away. “Bye.”
I watched as she walked away from me and waited to see if she turned to look at me one last time. Of course, the ice queen she was, she didn’t even sneak a glance. But she couldn’t fool me. I saw it in her eyes when I took my shirt off. She wanted me as much as I wanted her.
Chapter 2
Sarah screamed loudly.
“We are invited to the party tonight?” she jumped on my sad twin bed with a single, blush pink comforter on it, while I stared at my phone in order to avoid her gaze. “Hazel, we need to go. We never go to parties.”
“Exactly, we never go,” I looked up, rolling my eyes. I felt like I was forever rolling my eyes. That was my signature move these days. Or years. “So why would we go now?”
