I then brushed my lips with hers. God, I needed her.

“Youare my purpose, sweetheart. Not the game, not the sport. None of that matters if I don’t have you. I would have gladly walked away today with my contract terminated if it meant protectin’ you from him. Logan, you are everythin’ I want and didn’t know I needed. When are you goin’ to understand that?”

I brushed away the warm tears rolling down her cheeks.

“I guess you’ll have to keep reminding me, cowboy.”

“How about every day?” Her brows drew together in confusion.

“Move in with me, sweetheart. Let’s turn one of those empty bedrooms into a nursery for our son and move all your shit into my bedroom. Let’s go to bed together every night and wake up together every mornin’, where I’ll remind you that you are my everythin’.”

Scarlett squealed behind her and started clapping her hands. “I wish I had this on camera!”

Logan smiled and rolled her eyes. “You do know she’ll be visiting all the time,” she whispered, standing on her toes to press her lips to mine in a soft kiss.

“We can lock the door. I’ll buy a deadbolt,” I whispered, my lips brushing hers.

“As if that would ever keep me out,” Scarlett scoffed.

“I’d love to move in with you, cowboy.” I closed the small gap between our lips again just as the fans and my teammates burst into cheer around us.

I tuned them out and focused on the most beautiful woman in my arms. The one I was going to marry. The one I was going to buy a big house for. The one I was going to love for the rest of my life.

CHAPTER22

Logan

Four MonthsLater

Getting into my car wasn’t easy anymore with my protruding belly almost pressing against the steering wheel. I had to recline the seat and then struggled to reach the pedals. Clipping the seatbelt in, I started the car and checked my surroundings before pulling out of the grocery store parking lot. Tonight, I was going to make Jaxon a romantic dinner. His sister-in-law, Kenna, had told me his favorite meal, and I’d bought all the ingredients for it.

Merging into traffic, I noticed a big, white truck following my movements. I wouldn’t normally think anything of it, except my gut was twisting with anxiety. A little on edge, I changed lanes, and the Tundra followed. Swallowing thickly and trying not to panic, I took the next exit to jump on the highway. The truck let another car between us, but my muscles were tight. The truck was definitely following me—just kept at a distance.

Reaching for my phone in my bag, I blindly patted around for it. Once the cold device was in my grasp, I called Jaxon.

“What’s up, sweetheart?” His voice eased some of the panic clawing at my throat. Checking my rearview mirror, I saw the truck was now right on my bumper.

“J-Jax,” I stuttered, pressing my foot harder on the accelerator and changing lanes again.

“What’s wrong? Is it the baby?” There was panic in his voice now, and my heart raced, no longer calm.

“Someone is following me. I can’t see through the windshield. It’s—but maybe it’s him…” I trailed off, remembering Richard’s face when he’d been dragged away after his last game with the team.

“Where are you now?” There was a loud commotion in the background, deep voices asking him questions that fell silent quickly.

I told him my location and changed lanes again when he began to give me directions.

“Stay on the phone with me. How fast are you going?”

Glancing down at the digital speedometer, I cringed. “85, and he’s on my rear. If I brake, he’ll hit me hard.” Jax’s phone connected to his truck, and I heard his friends in the background.

“Don’t panic. I’m comin’, okay? I won’t let anything happen to you, sweetheart. You’re going to be safe. He won’t hurt you ever again.” His truck roared through the speaker as he accelerated.

I merged into the fast lane between two cars, where the white Tundra couldn’t follow me. He roared past me and rolled down his window. Richard’s crazed eyes gleamed at me. Sweat gathered at the back of my neck, and my fingers shook where they grasped the steering wheel.

“It’s him. Oh, God, he’s going to run me off the road, Jax!” Fear was ripping my throat apart, and I could no longer control the panic that was slowly seizing my body.

“Fuck. Be calm, Logan. Can you hear me? Listen to my voice. I’m not goin’ to let him hurt you or my son.” His truck revved loudly as he rushed to get to me.
