Jay broke their kiss and smoothed her hair away from her face. “I love you,” he murmured.

“And I love you.”

He turned and motioned for Hope to join their circle.

“Do you like the ring, Mama?”

“I love it.”

“I told Jay you would. He didn’t believe me.” Hope scoffed, then grinned.

Bebe looked confused. “You already knew?”

“Yep.”

Jay chuckled. “Had to make sure she was okay with it.”

“He asked for my blessing too,” Mr. Willabee said.

His mom came over to the couch. “Let me see.”

Soon his folks and her folks were congratulating them both and calling for a toast for a blessing on their marriage. Seeing both of their families together did something to Jay’s heart. He never knew how much he’d needed to see this, but he was so thankful that being sidelined with an injury put him on the right route.

His days of football were over, but instead of feeling like the world had come to an end, he knew it was only just beginning.
