“Ugh. I hate that. Save it and start again. Don’t delete it. You’ve worked on it.”
“I will.”
“Is everything else okay?”
What she was really asking was if he had harmed himself. If he had given in and cut. He wished sometimes, she’d just come right out and ask it. It would be a lot easier that way.
“Everything’s fine. I’m just gonna grab a shower and then I was going to start dinner. Will you be home soon?”
“An hour or so. How did it go with Carly today?”
William tensed and put his head down. “It was fine. Same old thing.”
“That’s good.” She never asked what he and Carly talked about, although he didn’t mind telling her. He never said much to Carly that he wouldn’t say to Rosie anyway.
“She agrees the lounge is a good place. I told her we discussed it.”
“Oh, she did? This is ...” there was a sound on the other end, like something had fallen over. “Ah shit,” she said.
“Rosie?”
“Yeah. Sorry. Knocked over my water. Can I call you back? Shit. No, no, no … oh god. Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” he said, smiling. “I’ll be here when you get home.”
“Okay. Love you,” she said.
He nodded, even though she couldn’t see him. “You too.”
