“Okay, fine.” I throw my hands up in the air before dragging them down my face. “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. He thought it would be a good idea. No strings attached and all of that.”
“And just like the first time you were with him, you’re starting to feel more for him.”
“I don’t have feelings for him. This is nothing but casual sex, and there’s a deadline on it. As soon as I’m done working here, the two of us are going to go our separate ways. That’s all there is to it.”
Paloma doesn’t look convinced. “You know this is going to end badly. Things like this always do.”
“I know.” I run my hand through my hair before grabbing the claw clip off my desk and pinning the strands back. “I thought that it would be good to relieve a little stress, but now there are all these other things getting in the way.”
“Like what?”
“Like the fact that when this all ends, I don’t know if I’m going to be able to walk away.”
CHAPTER 13
GRAYSON
Jade’s eyes are the size of saucers as she steps onto the private jet and sits down in one of the beige leather seats. She runs her hand over the polished wood armrests. “There is no way that your dad owns a plane this nice.”
I stow my work bag in the overhead compartment, putting hers beside it before going to the little bar in the back corner. “Had it since I was a teenager.”
“You never mentioned it when we were in college.”
“Well, I was pretty sure that you were a she-devil just using me for my dick and my money while also screwing me out of being the top of the class.”
The corner of her mouth twitches. “Grayson, I’ve never given a damn about your money.”
“I can see that now.” I grab two of the small bottles of champagne, open them and hand her one as I take the seat across the aisle from her.
She puts her champagne down on the little side table. “You know, New York is a big city. I was pretty sure I was going to be able to spend the rest of my life without seeing you again.”
“You were on a pretty good streak there.”
Jade smiles slightly and leans back in the seat, buckling up as the flight attendant boards and does a quick safety demonstration.
As soon as the flight attendant disappears into the cabin, Jade glances at me. Her lips twitch slightly, and I can see the words on the tip of her tongue even though she’s holding back whatever it is she wants to say.
“You know, if you’re going to sit there and look at me like that, you’re eventually going to have to tell me what’s on your mind. The curiosity will kill me.”
She laughs, her eyes rolling. “You don’t want to know what I was thinking.”
The engines whir to life, and the plane starts to creep forward down the tarmac.
I link my hands together behind my head, stretching a little and trying to get comfortable for the long flight ahead of us. “Try me.”
There’s an impish smile on her face as she crosses one leg over the other, her biker shorts climbing higher up her thighs. “I was thinking that I haven’t gotten a chance to join the mile-high club yet.”
“There’s a bed in the back.” I nod to the door at the other end of the plane, just beside the bar. “The crew won’t be able to hear us back there.”
A light flush creeps from her cheeks down her neck and onto the tops of her breasts.
If there’s one thing I don’t think I will ever get tired of between us, it’s the way that she still blushes even after we’ve spent hours exploring every inch of each other.
At this point, I probably know her body better than I know my own.
The second the seatbelt light turns off, Jade is out of her seat and heading toward the back of the plane.
She disappears into the bedroom, shedding her clothing until she’s standing naked at the foot of the bed and waiting for me.
