She flicked a look at her.

Familiar silver-grey eyes held hers.

“Dish the dirt. All of it,” Elissa said and Lilian stared at her, struggling to believe it was really her.

She looked as she had before she had been exiled from their coven, but different at the same time. Her long flowing hair was now a stunning shade of silver that almost matched her eyes.

The mark of a tainted witch?

The tales of what happened to a witch when she took demon seed into her body were wrong though. The proof of that was right in front of her, in the magic Lilian could feel seeping into her to strengthen hers. Elissa hadn’t lost her connection to the earth and magic when she had become tainted. If anything, Elissa felt stronger to Lilian now.

As embarrassing as it was, Lilian opened the floodgates and told Elissa everything. She held nothing back, not even how she was coming to feel something for Night and how afraid she was. When she was done, Elissa’s soft features were set in a hard line.

“Come on.” Elissa grabbed her hand and dragged her towards the door. “We have work to do.”

“The vampire—”

“Antoine can growl all he wants, but he can’t save Night. We can.” Elissa pulled her down a dark corridor and through a huge double-height black room that had a staircase against the opposite wall. Beneath that staircase there were four crimson couches set around a coffee table. Elissa tugged her past them to the stairs and stomped up them. “I know where to find him.”

Lilian stared at her back and frowned. Elissa wasn’t wearing a black dress. Rather than the traditional garb of a witch, she wore tight blue jeans and a violet halter-top. They suited her.

“If my mate was here,” Elissa grumbled.

Lilian wanted to ask her to finish that sentence because she was curious about Elissa’s mate, but climbing the stairs was already taking its toll on her. She was breathless and panting as they reached the first turn, and was struggling to keep going when they reached the second, passing another floor.

She was close to making Elissa stop when they finally reached the top floor.

“I know a way to save your vampire.” Elissa pivoted to face her, the grimness of her expression making Lilian uneasy. “It involves another spell on your blood though and getting Night to drink it to cleanse his. Are you strong enough?”

She nodded. “I don’t think his cousin is going to let that happen though.”

Elissa huffed. “You might be right about that. Antoine can be a little stubborn at times, especially when it comes to his family, but I’ll make him see sense.”

Lilian wasn’t sure that she would, but she didn’t know these vampires like Elissa did. If her old friend was confident that she could get past Night’s guard, then she would manage it.

She followed Elissa to the first door on the right and tensed when Elissa knocked and someone answered her with a growl. The silver-haired witch banged her fist against the door again.

“Come on, Antoine. Don’t be a dick. I know a way to help Night. I’m guessing right now you’re trying to make him drink his weight in blood, but you know that won’t get the poison out of his system…ifyou can make him drink it even.” Elissa leaned against the doorframe. “I know how to get him to feed. You have to offer him something he wants to bite. A juicy morsel he can’t resist.”

“Juicy morsel?” Lilian hissed at her as she frowned. “I’m not a juicy morsel.”

“You were tempting enough that he did that to your neck.” Elissa waggled a finger at the wound and Lilian’s hand flew to it.

She grimaced at the lumpy feel of it. It was healing, but still sore and felt disgusting beneath her fingertips.

“Leave,” Antoine snarled.

The door opposite opened and a beautiful green-eyed blonde poked her head out. “What’s happening?”

“Antoine won’t let us save Night because we’re witches and witches are pure evil, apparently.” Elissa pointed at Lilian. “This is Lilian. She’s a member of my old coven and Night’s lover. She’s trying to save him, but your husband is determined to kill him with a blood overdose or something stupid like it.”

The blonde sighed melodically and stepped out into the hallway, and it was then Lilian noticed the black bundle in her arms. She rocked it gently as she crossed to the door and banged her fist against it. The baby wriggled and mewled, and the woman gazed down at it adoringly and gently tapped her fingertip against its nose. Lilian assumed it was meant to soothe the baby, but it kicked harder instead and began to cry.

The woman pouted down at her child. “Is Daddy upsetting you? He’s upsetting everyone. It’s not just you, my beautiful little Helena.”

“I am not upsetting her, Sera.” The door flew open to reveal a black-walled room and the brunet vampire. He glared at the blonde and then softened before Lilian’s eyes as his gaze dropped to the squirming bundle of black. He peered down at the baby. “Shh, little one. All is well. Daddy is here.”

Sera held Helena out to him. “Take her for a while? I’m starving.”
