How things had changed.

Kin watched over her, aware that more than their situation had changed. He had changed too.

He had fallen in love with her.

And he hoped she loved him too.

Lightning struck outside and it felt as if that thunderbolt had hit him in the heart as something dawned on him.

He didn’t care whether she was his fated one or not. He loved her. She made him crazy in a good way, and calmed him too. His wolf side was a testament to the power she had over him. He had never felt so content—so at peace—so complete. He had never felt so still. So perfectly still.

As if he was exactly where he was meant to be at last.

That feeling and the warmth that filled him whenever he gazed at Hella made something else hit home.

He couldn’t betray her.

His plan was shot.

Hella believed she could help him with the curse, and it was sweet of her, but already he could feel it eating away at his strength again. The curse was affecting him more quickly. If he let things go on, the time he could go between making love with Hella to strengthen him would grow shorter and shorter, until what? It was no longer effective at all? As much as he wanted to stay with her and was enjoying his time with her, he couldn’t go on like this.

Because he didn’t want to cause her pain.

He had seen the hurt in her eyes when she had seen the state of him and how the curse had ravaged him, and had felt her desperate need to help him. If he stayed with her, she would be forced to watch him fade like that every time they made love, and if she couldn’t find a way to break the curse, she would grow more and more desperate, and more and more upset with herself. Her inability to help him would destroy her.

He couldn’t let that happen.

He needed to find a way to break this curse without hurting her.

But what if he broke it and it changed things between them? What if everything he felt for her was just the spell manipulating his feelings?

It couldn’t be.

He didn’t want it to be.

He needed to know if this feeling was real and there was only one way to find out.

His senses reached outwards, to the world outside the house, and the familiar rain-soaked green mountains that enclosed it. He had known the moment the incubus had landed with him and Hella in this room that he was close to home.

Close to the fae town in Fort William where the redheaded witch lived.

His gut said that she wouldn’t be kind enough to lift the curse and free him from it if he asked her.

Which left him with one option.

Kill the witch and hope it broke the curse.

Chapter 25

Hella stretched and grinned, feeling wonderful from head to toe. It was amazing how fantastic sex could improve your mood. She rolled onto her left side and frowned when she found the spot beside her empty.

Where was Kin?

Maybe he was taking a shower.

Her blood warmed at the thought of joining him and she tossed the dark covers off her, rolled to her other side and out of bed. She padded barefoot around it, picking her way through the pieces of wood and glass that were still scattered around the floor, her smile growing a little wider as she spotted one of her stockings draped over the remains of a drawer.

Kin had removed them in the most delicious way when she had woken him in the early hours, unable to resist the need that had built inside her as she had watched him sleeping. He had smoothed her stockings down her legs, kissing the skin he revealed as he went, sensitising it and bringing her entire body alive. He had tortured her mercilessly with his tongue for what had felt like hours before he had finally listened to her plea to give her what she really needed from him.
