He doesn’t move a muscle.
“W-What do y-you want?”
He cocks his head, and I freeze. My heart beats erratically, hard and fast against my ribcage. My breathing hitches, waiting for him to barrel toward me.
But he doesn’t.
What the hell are you doing? Get out of here!I walk backward, my eyes boring into his masked face.
Then I turn around and sprint for the hospital door.
Yanking it open, I look over my shoulder before walking inside. He hasn’t moved, still standing in the same spot beneath the Evergreens.
I hesitate, staring back at him. His head is no longer cocked, but even from this distance, I know he’s watching me.
Get to your car and get the fuck out of here.
I sever eye contact, run through the open door, and hurry down the hallway. I finally spot a nurse and flag her down, asking for directions so I can get to my car. Visiting hours are over in five minutes anyway, not that I can see my mom, even if I did try to sneak up to her room. My fucking father has two guards stationed outside her door.
Hurrying through the hospital, I step through the automatic doors, my eyes searching the dim parking lot ahead. I don’t see the Myers-wearing masked man, but out of an abundance of caution, I keep my eyes peeled as I briskly walk to my car.
Unlocking the door, I look around before I pull it open. I have one foot inside when I look up and see the man in the Michael Myers mask staring at me.
Fuck this.
I slide inside, lock the doors, and immediately start my car. I back out of the space, only glancing at him once more before I shift into drive, slam my foot on the gas, and race out of the garage like I’m being chased.
Even though he hasn’t moved, I get the uncomfortable suspicion that, if given the opportunity, he’d follow me.
CHAPTER 50
Zayne
Chuckling beneath the mask, I yank it off once I can no longer see her taillights. I tuck it in my hoodie pocket and pull out my keys as I head to my truck.
Oh, Delaney. There’s no escaping me.
There’s a reason why you came back to this town while I decided to seek revenge on those who hurt me. Now that I know your father hurt you and your mother, I’m going to make him suffer even more before I kill him.
As I climb inside my truck, I grin. You’ll be punished, too, minx. I need to teach you a lesson for keeping secrets and running from me.
I can promise this—she’ll never escape me again.
Once I get my hands on her, she’s mine.
Forever.
She’s jumpy as hell, her ass planted on the couch in the living room, feet outstretched and rubbing nervously together as shestares at the TV on the wall, sipping on an iced coffee. She has the fire roaring as though she’s chilled to the bone.
Do I still give you goosebumps, minx? I sure as hell used to.
As if she can’t contain her nervous energy, she gets to her feet and heads to the window. I grin as I watch her press her face against it, staring into the darkness.
Let’s have some fun.
Her gaze slowly roams to the left of the property. I stealthily move from the tree I’m standing behind, knowing I’m obstructed from her view as I creep along the front porch, past the door, stopping beside the window she’s peering out.
I step right in front of the window, delighting in her screams as she jumps back from the window.
