“What’s mine is yours, minx. Now and forever.”
CHAPTER 78
Zayne
My thumb rubs circles on the denim as Delaney laughs at something Devyn said. I’m barely paying attention to the conversation.
Instead, I’m tingling with anticipation over how well she gets along with my friends, who I consider my family. She seamlessly fits in, like she’s always been a part of our group.
My gaze latches with Jaxson’s. He nods, raising his glass in a slight toast, a slight smirk on his face.
I was wrong about her.
There’s no doubt where Delaney’s loyalty lies. The way she attacked her brother to save Stryker spoke volumes.
But it’s how she looks at me, with love, respect, devotion, and possessiveness, that fills me with a sense of security.
Delaney is mine, and I’m hers.
We’re almost finished with dinner when Delaney turns to me, panicking. “You didn’t happen to grab any of my bags from the cabin, did you?”
“No. Why?”
She closes her eyes and exhales a breath. “My mom gave me evidence against my father. The pictures resemble something my fifth graders would have given me. She instructed me to useclues from my childhood, things she asked me to keep secret, to figure it out.”
Devyn and Ryker exchange a look. “Where is it?”
“It’s in a folder inside a duffle bag in my closet. The only thing on the top shelf.”
“We’ll get it.” Devyn is already getting to her feet, Ryker right behind her.
“Seriously?”
“Yes. It’s no problem. No one in Green Haven knows us. Do you have your phone?”
I reach into my pocket and hand Delaney a new iPhone. “I had to get rid of your old one in case they were tracking you. All your contacts and photos are in the new one.”
“You spoil me.” Her smile is wide as she stares at it. “Is my number still the same?”
“No, I had it changed.” Leaning over her, I pull up a new text message and start typing Devyn. When her name pops up, I say, “Type her a message so she has your number.”
“Is everyone’s number in here?” She gestures at those seated at the table.
“What do you think?”
“Yes, because you’re obsessed with my safety and well-being.”
I wink at her. “You’re a smart woman, minx.”
“Your nickname is so cute. Ryker calls me blue jay.” Devyn’s phone beeps with a text. “Adding you to my contacts now, Delaney.”
“Awesome. That’s an adorable nickname.”
She smiles up at Ryker. “I love it. My eyes are the same color as the bird. Hence the nickname.”
I slide my arm over Delaney’s shoulders. “She’s my minx because she’s beautiful, clever, and a little troublemaker.”
“I’m not a troublemaker.” She slaps my thigh with a laugh.
