“Let me help you.” I reach down, helping him to his feet. “Keep pressure against the wound. Lean on me. I’m getting you out of here.”

He groans. “Sorry, Zayne. I should have protected her.”

“You were ambushed. Not your fault at all. Jaxson is looking into how they got around our cameras.”

We make it to my truck, and I help him in the back, getting him as comfortable as I can before I jump behind the steering wheel.

Rage courses through me as I drive. Delaney slumps over toward me as I drive down the bumpy lane. I grab her, pulling her beside me.

“Is she okay?” Stryker’s weak voice comes from behind me.

“Daniel threw her against the fireplace. Her forehead is split open.”

“Fuck. Those damn assholes.”

I glance over my shoulder at him. “Just rest until we get to my house in Stone Ridge. Ryker is calling the doctor. He’ll be there when we arrive.”

CHAPTER 72

Zayne

Delaney is curled up beside me as I drive. Stryker has either dozed off or passed out again. I’m not sure which.

Rage has my hands fucking shaking as I head down the back alley behind the city hall. The Halloween party is still going strong, judging by the cars in the lot and people wearing costumes that are evident through the windows.

Jaxson informed me Richard Warner snuck away with two seventeen-year-old girls and took them to a hotel two blocks away.

Good. I don’t want a bomb killing him.

Adrenaline courses through my veins. I installed the bomb inside city hall before I left town to visit Luca. I had planned to do this before the shit went down at Delaney’s cabin, but it was delayed for obvious reasons.

Now, the motherfucker will know for sure I’m back in town. After tonight, Richard will quiver in terror, wondering when I’ll strike. I’ve taken everything from him, just like he did me.

Soon, I’ll be the one to end his life.

Once I’m far enough away, I pull the small controller from my pocket. Delaney murmurs a few unintelligible sounds, which fills me with relief.

I press the button, watching the building explode, glass and brick flying, car alarms going off as the vehicles fly through the air.

Damn. That’s one powerful bomb. I’ll have to thank my contact for it later.

Richard thinks he has friends in high places, but he doesn’t have the contacts Jaxson and I do. If he and his son thought we were fucking things up before, they haven’t seen anything yet.

He’ll die in my dungeon, and I’ll bury any remaining pieces in the massive woods behind my house.

I speed away, a sense of satisfaction rolling through my chest.

Get ready, Richard. You started this war fifteen years ago. But I’ll be the one to finish it.

Liftingmy cell phone to my ear, I make the call. “Did you see it?”

I can hear the smile in Jaxson’s voice. “Fucking poetry. You’re a badass, Zayne Morine. When I grow up, I wanna be like you.”

I chuckle. “Fuck off, asshole.”

“How’s Stryker and Delaney?”

“Injured but breathing. I’m driving as fast as I can to get them home. I don’t trust any of the asshole doctors in this corrupt fucking town.”
