CHAPTER 54
Zayne
Ihate carrying her through the darkness to her cabin, dumping her in bed, and having to leave her.
If only I could stay…
Shaking the thought away, I smooth the hair from her forehead before whispering, “Sweet dreams. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
Like a thief in the night, I stole out of her cabin, erasing the video footage so she didn’t know I was there.
Beautiful fucking woman. She makes me crazy.
Hell, I nearly gave up my identity in the bathroom, not using the voice modulator when I said, “That’s one.”
Luckily, she was too caught up in her orgasm. I grabbed the mask, twisting it to use the modulator to disguise my voice.
Why would she think it’s me?I heard her talking to Callie. She mentioned how this town still reminds her of me, even though I’m on the West Coast.
Little does she know….
There’s a part of me that is still pissed as hell that she didn’t tell me what was going on when we were kids. The hurt that swirls through me is raw and real. I thought she trusted me, and that’s what’s making me insane.
I know it’s irrational, but I can’t help it.
I sit inside my truck, watching Aidan Pierson beneath lowered brows. He’s the first one on my list of victims.
The jackass is wearing a three-piece suit, eying the blonde’s cleavage. His gaze flicks up to her face, and I see it—predator and prey vibe.
Woman, I’m about to do you a favor. You have no idea what his plans are for you.
She thinks she’s being wined and dined at a cozy, private restaurant. But through my research, I’ve learned Aidan, Delaney’s brother, Daniel, and Tim are running a drug and human trafficking ring.
Not on my fucking watch.
The blonde gets up to use the restroom. Aidan has a predatory smile as his gaze darts around, ensuring the coast is clear before he dumps something into her drink. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s a date rape drug.
I’ve dealt with his type before, although they are usually rougher and more muscular.
When Jaxson and I found out that our cameras were being used for a drug trafficking ring on a college campus, we sent Ryker in to infiltrate them and schmooze them. Since his wife, Devyn, is a student there, it was easy.
Of course, Jaxson, Luca, and I were there to ensure things went smoothly. We also brought in two other friends, Evan Whitmore and Trent Walsh, to ensure Devyn and Ryker were safe. We don’t put our friends in jeopardy without an army of unhinged people ready to kill at the slightest sign of a threat.
The blonde returns to the table and takes a long drink of her wine. I cringe, knowing I’m going to need some help.
Lifting my phone to my ear, I wait until his irritated voice snaps in my ear.
“I’m watching Aidan Pierson. He’s wining and dining a blonde. Just slipped something in her drink while she was in the bathroom.”
“I thought we were waiting a few days to move on this, Zayne?”
“Can’t be helped. I’ve been watching the three of them, and when Aidan set up this date for tonight, I knew it wouldn’t end well. Are you coming to help me with her or not, asshole?”
“Yeah, I’m already throwing on clothes to head out. You woke me from the sweetest dream. I was banging Mila Kunas?—”
“She’s married, fucker. And way out of your league. Now quit beating off and get your ass here. I’ll send you the coordinates of where I am.”
“I’m not beating off,” Jaxson mumbles. “Don’t do anything stupid, Zayne. I mean it.”
