“It wasn’t planned, and I can’t believe it fucking happened,” Reed rushed out in one long breath.
“Mm-hmm,” I mused and was content to wait for him to expand, but he didn’t. He eyed me expectantly and for one of the first times in my life, I was at a loss for words.
“And…” I started, and the first thing to come to mind came tumbling out of my mouth. “Do you want to do it again?”
Reed’s eyes lifted from our hands, and the flare of heat behind them made my sex clench. No words were needed for me to know what he was thinking, but I waited as a smile lifted the corners of my mouth.
“Yes,” he said hungrily in a low, husky voice.
“Okay, good,” I said breathlessly. “Glad we got that out of the way. Now—” I began to turn to Josh when Reed cut me off midsentence.
“But I don’t want to pressure anyone else into anything. Just because I want something doesn’t mean that the two of you also have to want it. I understand that I’ve made things even more complicated, and I—” Reed was breathing heavily when Josh finally interrupted him.
“I know that you have this uncanny need to take the blame for everything, but I think we’re past that. Not only did I kiss you back last night, but I also jacked you off into our girlfriend. So, yeah, maybe you started it, but I really took it to another fucking level.”
While he spoke, Josh crossed the kitchen to where Reed and I stood. The only thing separating them now was me, and I tried to slink away without being noticed. Josh’s hand on my waist stopped me.
I peered over my shoulder at him, but his eyes didn’t move from Reed’s. His stare was intense yet steady, and I could see the wheels in his head turning like he was preparing for anything.
Quickly I glanced back at Reed, who, with his hands balled into fists at his sides, was returning the same look to Josh. I couldn’t tell if they were about to fuck or fight.
Both seemed equally likely.
But finally, and so slowly that for several seconds I didn’t actually notice it was happening, Reed relaxed. His hands unclenching and his shoulders dropping.
With a shake of his head, he turned back to the island and braced his hands on the countertop. Josh’s hand around my waist finally loosened.
“How did this happen?” Reed murmured.
Behind me, Josh let out a sardonic chuckle. “Hell if I fucking know, but I don’t think there’s much we can do about it now.”
“Would you want to do something about it?” There was a hesitance in Reed’s voice, and he eyed Josh from the corner of his eye.
“No,” Josh said, his voice lacking all the hesitation laced in Reed’s.
Finally, Reed straightened and looked at Josh behind me. “Okay.”
“Okay,” Josh said.
I looked at Reed. Josh looked at Reed. I looked at Josh. Josh looked at me. But no one said anything.
Was that it?
“Is that it?” I asked while huddling deeper into my sweatshirt. It felt like the temperature was dropping by the minute as the snow continued to fall outside.
“What do you mean?” Reed questioned, finding his phone on the counter and shaking his head slowly.
“That’s all you have to say to each other? I don’t feel like anything was really resolved.”
“We said all we needed to say,” Josh added, looking at his own phone.
Quickly, I glanced back and forth between them, thoroughly confused. “I don’t think anything wasreallysaid. So, are you together? What’s happening?”
They looked at me like I was crazy, and for a moment, I thought I might be. That maybe they hadn’t had the conversation I’d witnessed and heard. But I also knew that couldn’t have been true.
“Sure.”
“Yeah, sure.”
