“God, Millie,” he mutters, his voice thick with awe. “You’re incredible. They’re gonna be so jealous.”
I gasp, my breaths coming in ragged bursts. I’m barely aware of him grabbing his phone and snapping a picture, but I hear him sending it to the group chat. The image is soon followed by a message from Declan.
>>Still making her scream. Wish you guys were here.
The response from the chat is immediate and filled with jokes and playful jealousy. Declan and I both laugh quietly, our bodies still entwined.
He leans down, pressing his lips to mine. The kiss is tender, filled with emotion. His hands cup my face, his touch gentle despite the intensity of our actions.
“I’m in love with you, Millie,” he murmurs between kisses.
I smile against his lips, my heart racing. “I love you too.”
He pulls back slightly, his eyes searching mine. “Can I introduce you as my girlfriend? Take you to the zoo with Lily?”
I nod, my eyes shining. “Yes. I’d love that.”
He grins, his happiness evident. We share another deep kiss, our breaths mingling. The room is filled with the quiet sounds of our affection.
Eventually, we settle into each other’s arms, our bodies wrapped tightly together. The warmth and closeness are comforting.
I feel safe and cherished in his embrace.

The sun is shining brightly as we walk through the entrance of the Chicago Zoo. Declan holds Lily’s hand on one side and I’m on his other side.
Feeling the warmth of the day and the excitement bubbling in the air. Lily skips along, her eyes wide with wonder at the animals we pass.
“Look, Millie! A giraffe!” she exclaims, pointing excitedly.
I smile down at her. “It’s so tall, isn’t it?”
Declan grins, lifting Lily up onto his shoulders so she can get a better view. “Bet you can see everything from up there, huh?”
Lily giggles, holding onto Declan’s head for balance. “Yeah! I can see the whole zoo!”
We make our way through the different exhibits, stopping to watch the monkeys swing from tree to tree and the penguins waddle around their enclosure. Declan and I take turns pointing out animals to Lily, her laughter ringing out every time something catches her eye.
As we reach the lion exhibit, a group of people start whispering and pointing in our direction. Declan notices and gives me a sheepish smile. “I think I’ve been spotted.”
Sure enough, a few fans come over, asking for pictures. Declan sets Lily down gently and poses with them, his smile genuine and warm. I watch, a mix of pride and amusement unfurling in my chest.
“Aren’t you Declan from the Chicago Icebreakers?” one of them asks, eyes wide with excitement.
Declan nods, chuckling. “Yep, that’s me.”
“Can we get a picture?” another fan asks, holding up their phone.
“Of course,” Declan agrees, wrapping an arm around the fan and smiling for the camera.
Lily tugs on my hand, looking up at me with curiosity. “Why do people want to take pictures with Daddy?”
I kneel down beside her, smoothing back her hair. “Because your daddy is a very good hockey player and a lot of people are big fans of his.”
She nods thoughtfully. “Daddy is the best.”
I smile, giving her a hug. “Yes, he is.”
