She turns to me with a mischievous smile. “You look like you could use some company.”

I raise an eyebrow, feeling the weight of her gaze. “Yeah? What’s up?”

Millie’s smile is soft, a bit shy. “I hope I’m not interrupting anything.”

“No, not at all,” I say, motioning to the couch. “Just, uh, dealing with some stuff. Want something to drink?”

She shakes her head. “I’m good. I just wanted to talk.”

I nod, feeling a mix of relief and tension. I need this conversation.

“All right,” I say, sitting on the couch and patting the spot next to me. “Let’s talk.”

She sits down, close enough that I can smell her perfume—light, floral and intoxicating. I’m having a hard time focusing on anything other than the way her dress hugs her legs and the way she’s sitting so close. It’s making it hard to breathe.

“So,” I start, trying to keep my voice steady, “how’ve you been?”

Millie takes a deep breath, her fingers nervously twisting the hem of her dress. “I’ve been okay. Things have been…complicated.”

“Complicated how?” I ask, my tone gentle but probing. I need to know where we stand.

She looks up at me, her eyes serious. “I’ve been thinking a lot about us—about what we had and what’s happening now. It’s not easy.”

I nod, understanding more than she knows. “I get it. I’ve been thinking a lot, too. This season is...it’s huge for me. For us.”

“I know,” she says, her voice barely above a whisper. “I’ve been following the team’s progress. You’re amazing out there.”

I smile at the compliment, but it doesn’t completely chase away the nerves. “Thanks. It’s been rough with the pressure. And with everything going on, it’s hard to keep my head straight.”

She reaches out, her hand brushing mine. “I can imagine. And with everything between us…”

“Yeah,” I say, glancing at her hand on mine. “It’s been tough.”

There’s a moment of silence, the air between us thick with unsaid words. Millie shifts, turning to face me more fully.

“I know you’ve got a lot going on,” she says quietly. “But I need to be honest about what I want.”

My heart skips a beat. “And what’s that?”

She takes another deep breath, her eyes meeting mine with a determined look. “I want to figure things out with you. But I also need to explore what’s happening with Declan and Chase. They’re part of my life now too and that’s not just going to go away.”

“Are you saying you want to be with all of us?” I ask, trying to keep my voice even.

“That is what the conversation tonight is going to help us figure out. Right now, I am here because Declan is concerned. He seems to think that you’re not sleeping or eating right.”

“That snitch,” I say as I smile.

She’s got that look in her eyes, the one that makes my heart race.

“He’s only worried about his co-captain,” she says, her voice low and full of promise. “That’s why I have to make sure you are in tip-top shape. He’s with Lily and as soon as I’m done, you can head to practice.”

“Done? Done doing what?” I ask, my curiosity piqued but a little apprehensive.

Her hazel eyes lock onto mine as she stands and my breath catches. I watch, spellbound, as she slowly starts to undress. The blue summer dress falls to the floor in a soft cascade of fabric. What she’s wearing underneath makes my pulse quicken. She’s in light green lingerie. My blood is instantly focused south.

“Fuck,” I mutter, unable to tear my eyes away from her.

“Like it?” she asks with a sly smile, her fingers reaching up to pinch her nipples through the lace.
