“That was incredible,” he murmurs, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on my skin.
I smile, feeling completely and utterly sated. “Yeah, it was.”
He kisses my forehead, his lips soft and tender. “I think I could get used to waking up like this.”
“Me too,” I reply, snuggling closer to him. “But next time, I get to be in charge again.”
He laughs, a deep, rumbling sound that makes my heart flutter. “We’ll see about that. Now how about I take you out for breakfast?”

Peanut scampers in front of us as we walk to Doddle, a breakfast spot Chase recommended. It’s pet-friendly, which is perfect for us. As soon as we sit down, Peanut starts chewing on his toy bone, blissfully unaware of the world around him.
“I didn’t even know a pet-friendly place was so close to my apartment,” I say, smiling at Chase.
He grins back. “One of the benefits of going out with a vet.”
“So, is this a date?” I ask, trying to sound casual.
“Nope,” he replies, winking. “I’ll take you on a proper date tonight.”
The waitress comes over, giving Peanut an affectionate glance before turning to us. “What can I get you two?”
Chase orders a black coffee and a stack of blueberry pancakes. I go for a hot chocolate and avocado toast. The waitress nods and heads off, leaving us in comfortable silence.
Just as I’m about to ask him something, his phone rings. “Give me one second,” he says, standing up and walking a few steps away.
I watch him, admiring the way his pants cling to his thighs. He looks so damn hot. If anyone had asked me a few months ago if I’d be sitting here with a puppy and a vet, I’d have laughed. I silently thank my dad for pushing me to get out more.
I pull out my phone and snap a quick picture of Chase’s back, sending it to Jade. Almost instantly, she replies with whistling emojis. She’s been so supportive since she learned Chase was coming over for dinner.
Chase returns, finding me mid-text. He kisses my forehead and sits down. “Everything okay?” I ask.
“Yeah,” he says, but then his smile fades slightly. “I need to get to the clinic around noon. I have a client.”
“Can I ask who?” I ask, curious.
He leans in, lowering his voice. “One of my client’s rats seems to be coming down with something.”
I laugh, shaking my head. “You have the most interesting job.”
He grins. “Not always. But it does mean I need to swing by my apartment for a change of clothes.”
“Okay,” I say, nodding.
“Wanna come with?” he asks, taking my hand.
“Sure,” I reply, squeezing his hand back.
Our breakfast arrives and we dig in. Peanut looks up from his toy occasionally, but he’s more interested in it than our food.
“So, what’s on the agenda for today?” I ask between bites.
“Well, after the clinic, I thought we could go for a walk in the park. There’s a spot I think you and Peanut would love.”
“That sounds great,” I say, genuinely excited. “And tonight?”
“Tonight,” he says, giving me a mischievous smile, “is a surprise.”
