Finn leans back in his seat, looking out the window. “Thanks, guys.”

“No problem,” I say, giving him a small smile. “We’ve got your back.”

As we approach Chicago, the city lights flickering below, I feel a sense of hope. We’re family and one thing about family is, they stick together.

Chapter Thirty-Five

Millie

I’m on the phone with my dad, listening to him go on and on about the chickens he’s started raising.

I cup my belly the way I’ve done a thousand times since I moved in with Jade. There’s a life in there and the thought is terrifying and exciting in equal parts.

Jade’s gone off to class, leaving me alone in the apartment. I’ve ordered a hot chocolate for myself to be brought by DoorDash. It’s one of the cravings I can’t shake lately.

Dad’s voice is a comforting drone in the background. “...and the hens are laying eggs like crazy. You wouldn’t believe it, Millie. Fresh eggs every morning.”

“That sounds amazing, Dad,” I say, smiling even though he can’t see me. The doorbell rings, interrupting our conversation.“Hey, Dad, I gotta go. Someone’s at the door. I’ll call you back, okay?”

“Sure thing, sweetheart. Take care.”

I hang up and head to the door, curiosity piqued. I open it and freeze. Chase, Declan, and Finn are standing there, looking like they’ve been through hell and back.

“Hey, Millie,” Chase starts, his voice soft. “Can we talk?”

I swallow hard, my heart racing. “What are you doing here?”

“We came to apologize,” Declan says, stepping forward. “For everything.”

Finn nods, looking more vulnerable than I’ve ever seen him. “I messed up, Millie. Big time.”

Tears prick at my eyes, but I hold them back. “You hurt me,” I say, my voice trembling.

Chase takes a deep breath, his eyes filled with regret. “I know. And I’m so sorry. We’re all sorry. But we want to do this with you. We want to help you.”

Declan nods. “We want to make it right, Millie. We need you. And we need to be there for you and the baby.”

Finn looks at me, his eyes pleading. “Please, Millie. Can you forgive us?”

The dam breaks and I start to cry. They move closer, wrapping me in a group hug. It’s messy and awkward, but it’s exactly what I need.

“I forgive you,” I sob, clinging to them. “I just...I need you to be here for me. All of you.”

“We will be,” Declan promises, his voice firm. “We’re here for you, always.”

Chase wipes away my tears, his touch gentle. “We love you, Millie. We’re going to make this work. Together.”

Finn kisses my forehead, his own eyes wet with tears. “I’m so sorry, Millie. I’m here. We’re all here.”

I nod, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. “Okay. Let’s do this. Together.”

Chapter Thirty-Six

Finn

I’m grumbling to Declan as I pick up another piece of trash. “I swear, if I have to clean up one more goddamn hot dog wrapper…”

“That’s the deal you struck with Coach Nate,” Declan says, not really looking up from his phone. “You miss practice, you clean up the stadium.”
