“They seem top heavy,” I say, thinking about how hard it had been to keep control over my own car in that downpour. The wind hadn’t helped any. “I’m glad it’s just about over with. The forecast says we should finally get clear skies tomorrow.”
“The forecast should have warned me that we had hot guys coming out today,” says Josie, leaning around me and shooting someone bedroom eyes over my shoulder. “Any clue who the hunk is?”
I turn in my seat to follow her gaze and spot Tyler Stone, who’s just come into the large room. He’s heading for the coffee bar in the corner. “That’s Nathan’s brother, Tyler.”
“He’s a lot of man,” says Josie, with an appreciative hum. She blatantly looks him up and down. Laughing, I reach across and swat her with my napkin.
“Don’t stare like that, he’s going to notice,” I scold.
“Too late,” says Josie. She holds up a hand. “Hey, handsome. Over here.”
Groaning, I cover my face with one palm. My cheeks are hot but nothing embarrasses Josie.
Tyler heads our way with his coffee order. “Someone ring?”
“You looked like you could use some help finding a seat,” says Josie, smiling up at him. She’s gorgeous, even with her hair swept back in a messy updo. “You know, first day and all that. Just wanted to make it feel welcoming.”
“I certainly feel welcomed,” says Tyler, sitting down. He shoots me a smile, less sultry than the one that he gave Josie. “Hey, Demi. Long time no see.” Before I can say anything, he adds, “But not long time no hear. What’s this about you showing my niece how to handle a horse?”
Josie looks instantly interested. I hadn’t let it slip yet about anything. The fact that I am expecting, the fact that I have the world’s biggest crush on Nathan. None of it.
Well, I’m fairly certain that it’s not actually a secret that Nathan and I are into each other. It’s more that we just haven’t said anything about it. And the fact that I’m pregnant feels like it changes things. It feels like it makes everything a little heavier than it was before.
A little more important and a little more complicated.
“I’m going to start with showing her how to give one carrots,” I say. “And maybe how to brush out a tail. Don’t worry.” I hold up my hand, twisting two fingers into a promise symbol. “I won’t let anything happen to her. Scout’s honor.”
“Were you actually in scouts?” Tyler asks.
I smile at him, “For a week. It still counts!”
He laughs. The man has the same sense of humor as his brother, which makes him easy to talk to.
And I can tell that Josie is totally into him, too. I end up leaving first to give them a chance to talk one-on-one and head off to finish rounds.
Nathan’s not working today. It’s disappointing and makes the work seem to take longer.
It also means that there’s way less distraction from my personal problems.
The thing about the cardiac ward is that unless there’s an active issue, it’s super quiet. Older folks sleeping, younger folks playing their handheld video games, and a whole lot of people recovering from surgery.
Basic, easy work.
Routine, at least.
And that routine means that there’s no distraction from the fact that I still haven’t told Nathan that I’m pregnant. My lips purse. I haven’t told anyone, actually. It’s scary. The thought of being a mother… Terrifying!
My shift eventually does come to an end, and I’m able to hurry home. The rain is nothing more than a light sprinkle. I busy myself trying to clean the house before tomorrow, and then—
Well, my thoughts go back to Nathan and then the vibrator that used to be my best friend. It’s nowhere near as good as the real thing, but the sharp buzzing against my clit is still good enough to work me into a sweaty fervor.
It’s a great distraction from the main problems at hand.
Totally easy to think about Nathan the whole time that I’m pressing it up into myself. The rabbit ears work over my clit the whole time; I can easily picture Nathan’s deep blue eyes, his strong arms. Thick fingers working up inside of me, touching all of the places that need to be touched.
My hips jerk twice. My heel digs into the sheets and I cum thinking about Nathan curled on top of me, saying sweet things into my ear.
Good girl.
