She pulled back. “You look dangerous.”
“I am.” No use lying. She’d see right through it. She had real “mother” energy about her.
“Good. There better be an invitation to dinner for me, my children, and Eli, so we can meet you all properly under a less tense situation.”
When she looked at Quinn, all he said was, “Yes, ma’am.” Smart answer.
Jericho’s phone buzzed, and he fished it out.Call meflashed at the top of the screen, from Six. He headed for the door without a word.
“Where are you going?” Will asked, catching his arm.
“I need to make a phone call,” Jericho said. “I won’t be long.”
Will hesitated.
Jericho held up his phone. “Just out in the hall if you need me. Six and Spencer were going to see Kendrick; I’ve been waiting for an update.”
Will tugged him forward into a light kiss before letting him go.
He’d barely gotten out into the hall when Six picked up.
“That was quick,” Jericho said in greeting.
“I didjustsend you the message,” Six said tartly. “Besides, I’m sitting here with my thumb up my ass.”
“The one you’re holding your phone with?” The ambient sounds coming from the phone were familiar, almost like they were in the same hallway. “Did Spence get himself checked out?” Taking them to separate hospitals hadn’t been Jericho’s first choice, but Kendrick was already at another one, and Spencer refused to let them take him anywhere else. Quinn and the others had wanted Sebastian looked at more quickly than it would have taken to get to where Kendrick was, and they’d made the decision to split up.
“Kendrick and Spencer have been reunited,” Six confirmed.
“And?” Jericho asked.
“Spence is banged up but with rest and medication he’ll heal right up. Ken… has a lot of physical therapy in his future. Chances of him walking on his leg again… I guess we’ll find out.”
Jericho winced. Not the answer any of them wanted. “Your professional opinion?”
“My professional opinion is that we’ll find out,” Six repeated. “The guy that did the damage is fucking lucky he’s dead, or he and Bianca would be having a long, drawn-out date.”
“Should have kept him alive then,” Jericho said lightly. Six’s sword would have had to get in line. The only reason Jericho wasn’t looking for a way to drag the asshole back from the dead to kill him all over again was because Kendrick had survived. “And the cop?” Henry had been kept overnight and wasn’tdischarged yet as far as Jericho was aware. It had been a long fucking twenty-four hours.
“He’s gonna have one hell of a pretty scar to show off when he goes out to get laid, but otherwise he’ll be fine.”
“We’ll be here for the night,” Jericho said. Whether Sebastian liked it or not, he was getting scans, and if the staff didn’t suggest that he stay overnight for observation, Jericho would insist. He might even be nice about it. “Keep me posted.”
“You got it.”
Jericho checked that everything was under control in the room and then grabbed Will so they could go in search of sustenance. They all needed it. There was a McDonald’s around the corner, and a Hungry Jack’s. Maybe Sebastian would be less ornery if he got some coffee in him. Just this once, they’d allow it this time of day. As long as the nurses said it was alright.
If not, drinking it in front of him was acceptable too.
It felt like ithad been a lifetime since Will had been in Quinn’s house. It hadn’t, though Will would have believed it. Quinn’s house, Sebastian’s house, his apartment with Peyton. So much back and forth, and now there was nowhere else to go.
He glanced back at Jericho, who was helping Sebastian inside—despite his insistence that he was fine, andwould everyone please stop hovering. They weren’t going to.
Where did Jericho call home? He’d said he lived with his brother and his niece. What kind of place did they live in? Was Olivia back home now that everything had settled? Probably not enough time. Had they been contacted and were travelling home?
Will bit his lip and glanced around Quinn’s cosy living room. It was finally over, and the people that had been trying to hurt Sebastian, hurt them all, were either dead or behind bars.
What happened now?
