If it were anyone else asking, I’d probably tell them to fuck off, but this is Jax.

“We admitted our feelings to her last week, so not long,” I admit. “We’ve never taken advantage of her, but we couldn’t deny our attraction to her either.”

His lips curve into a smile. “Mason is going to kill you when he finds out, though. You know that, right?”

I raise an eyebrow. “I think someone else will be at the top of this list if we don’t find him first.”

He runs his hand through his hair. “That’s true. I think once he calms down, he’ll be okay. It’s obvious how much you care about her.”

River looks up, his eyes flicking between the two of us. “Nah, I’d still rip you a new one. Sisters are off limits.”

Jax rolls his eyes. “Better the devil you know than the devil you don’t.”

River shrugs. “Yeah, okay, I guess when you put it like that.”

“Besides, it’s a bit of a moot point,” I say, moving towards the door. “He’s still unobtainable.”

Jax pushes off the wall with his foot and reaches out to grip my shoulder. “We’ll track him down. In the meantime, we need to find out what this arsehole thinks he’s playing at.”

I look back to River. “Do you have what you need?”

“Yeah, man.”

I leave the room with a curt nod, not wanting to be here longer than needed. “Do you know anyone who can get out here on short notice and gut that room?” I ask Jax as I make my way towards the stairs.

“Yeah, I’ll link you up with our contact.”

The sooner any trace of him is gone, the better.

ChapterForty-Eight

CALEB

I wrap my arm around Jessica as we stand in front of the fireplace, my thumb working circles over her hip. I’m unsure if it’s to soothe her or keep myself in check.

To think, only a few hours ago, we were fucking right here on this very rug, and now we’re checking her phone to see if the prick has access to her location.

I watch Elliot as he connects his computer to the phone and gets to work. It’s not hard to see how attractive he is, even more so with his hair swept back, and his glasses add the sexy computer whiz vibes perfectly.

But when I look at him, I’m reminded of how much he meant to Noah. I don’t know why I’m such a jealous bastard when it comes to him. All I know is until Jessica, no one other than Noah has ever gotten under my skin like this, carved into my very soul.

It’s why, no matter what, I will do what needs to be done to protect them both. I might be a civilian now, but my trigger finger works just fine.

“Yeah, he tracked your phone to here,” Elliot says, peering up from underneath his glasses.

She moves closer to my side. “Does it work both ways? Can you track him?” I ask, already formulating a plan of attack.

He’s been in our home, defiled her clothes, her bed.

“Yeah, I can track him without even using her phone.”

His fingers work over the keyboard so fast that he doesn’t need to look at the keys. His eyes are trained on the screen in front of him.

It’s deathly quiet sans his fingers attacking the keys. “Can I get you guys a drink?” I ask, my arm dropping from around Jessica’s waist.

“I can do it,” she says, her voice small, the polar opposite to how vocal she was this morning, her new air of confidence buried, yet again.

Elliot looks up. “I’d love a coffee, and so will River. Jax takes tea if it’s not too much trouble.” He smiles softly as Jessica nods and looks up at me expectantly with a silent question.
