“Jase, I told you I don’t have sex with clients.”
“That won’t be a problem,” he murmured, skimming his lips along the column of her throat.
“If we’re heading to your house so I can look at potential upgrades for your security system, then it’s definitely a problem,” she challenged.
“I fired you.”
She barked out a laugh, unable to swallow it down. What was it about him?
“You fired a top-notch security specialist for what? Sex?”
“Incredible sex. Best sex of my life,” Jase growled at her ear.
“You don’t like the word no, do you?”
He grinned. “I don’t like obstacles. I remove them. Especially when they’re in the way of something I really want.”
“I’m not something,” she admonished.
“No, you’re not. You’re everything.”
Chapter Four
Jase’s admission had thrown Gwen. He saw it clearly on her face. He’d startled her, and she didn’t seem to know how to handle his claim. She glanced at her phone again as she followed him through the tour of his home. He saw the calculation in her gaze every time she looked around and knew she was assessing for security issues. It only made him want her more.
His phone vibrated, and he glanced down. Noah.
“Everything good?”
“It wasn’t Julia,” Noah stated.
“So much for the tech genius of Knight’s Watch,” Jase commented, and Gwen’s stare swung back to him.
“He already knew it wasn’t her when he spoke with her,” Noah admitted with a laugh.
Jase let that run through his mind. “Someone used her credentials to gain access to the private offices. Why her? What were they looking for?”
“Levi’s working on it. With Julia’s full cooperation. She’s pissed. Livid, actually. I don’t think I’ve ever seen your sister so mad.”
“Keep an eye on her,” Jase commanded.
“Levi’s sticking with her,” Noah told him. “He won’t leave her side.”
Jase nodded though Noah couldn’t see him. He’d read Levi’s file. The man might have a computer for a brain, but he was strong, fit, and perfectly capable of protecting Julia.
“I want to know the minute you discover anything else.”
“I’ll text you updates as I get them,” Noah promised.
Jase hung up and pocketed his phone. “Something to drink?” He led the way into the kitchen and pulled two bottles of water out of the fridge.
“Thank you.”
“What’s your take on the intruder?” he asked Gwen.
She pressed her lips together. “I’m curious to know who had your sister’s information. If she had the information stored somewhere, who would have had access to it?”
“I’ve been thinking about that myself. Maybe, once we know what they were trying to find, we’ll understand why they decided to use Julia,” Jase mused.
