“Fuck!” Jase grunted as he took his seat again. “Why didn’t our security team catch this?”
“Our only concern was making sure he didn’t come back in contact with anyone in the Hayes family or try to enter any of their homes or offices,” Noah stated. “Other than that, he wasn’t our concern.”
“Someone’s determined to make it your concern now,” Knight said softly.
Jase met his stare. “How is Sybil involved in this?”
“I can’t find a link to the Ayers family, but there’s something there. I’m still digging,” Levi offered with a shrug before moving on. “I’ve cross-referenced your employee files with the Ayers family and any known associates of the family. I couldn’t find anything that way. So I ran a trace from Julia’s laptop back through the breach.”
“And?” Jase prompted.
Levi turned his computer around.
“That’s Miles Kane,” Noah volunteered. “He was hired in June. Around the tenth, I believe.”
“June eighth to be exact,” Levi continued. “He left sick when we arrived yesterday and called in again today.”
“Who is he, Levi?” Jase snapped.
Levi shook his head. “I traced the activity back to his company-issued laptop.”
“Then he’s the one who’s been doing everything?” Noah asked.
“It seems like it,” Levi replied.
Jase heard the hesitation in the other man’s tone. “But?”
Levi shook his head. “I’m still digging.”
“We need to speak with Miles Kane,” Locke stated.
“What are you waiting for then?” Jase demanded. “Pick him up.”
“Actually, we’d like to be a little more subtle than that,” Knight suggested. “Noah, you’ve been known to check in on employees from time to time?”
Noah nodded. “It’s part of my job. I have a question first. How did you find a link to his laptop? They’re monitored daily. If it’d been used to access those areas, we should have been alerted immediately.”
“They covered their tracks very well. They didn’t just sneak in a backdoor. They created their own door then sealed it up nice and tight when they left, making it appear untouched,” Levi told them. “Your team didn’t catch it because they didn’t even know to look for it. I’ll make sure it never happens again. All part of the upgrade in security.”
“We’d like you to pay Mr. Kane a visit today, Noah. Bare and I will escort you, while Levi stays here and does some more digging in your network. Jagger will stay with Mr. Hayes.” Knight slid his gaze around the room as if daring anyone to argue the arrangements.
Jase didn’t care who did what. His mind was on three people. “Who’s with my sister and mother? I need to know they’re okay, Knight.”
“They don’t even know they’re being watched over,” Knight assured him. “But I promise you, they have the best protection I could send.”
It clicked easily. “Gwen’s with them.”
“I hope that’s not a problem, Mr. Hayes. I know you were adamant she not work for you.” Knight’s lips twitched at that.
Jase pushed up. “I’ll head over. Let me know what you find out about Mr. Kane.”
Noah nodded.
“I’ll drive,” the Playboy stated, and Jase didn’t argue. He felt a frantic need to get to Gwen and make sure she was okay. He couldn’t explain it. All he knew was he needed to see her. Now.
Chapter Seven
“Look at this one.” Mrs. Hayes held up another picture of Jase as a baby.
