Jesus, no.
She can't do this to me right now.
“Sarah.” I call her name in protest.
“Ian.” She mocks me.
“Come on, I'll make you lasagna later. Let's finish what we started first.”
“No. Besides, I need to get the house in order before our guests arrive.”
“Our family, you mean?”
“Yes, our family.” She grabs me by the jaw and starts to kiss me all over my face.
That's her way of trying to get me to let this go.
Fine.
We can always pick up later.
Remembering that I had a plan for the day myself since our family is arriving, I might as well do it now so we can have another thing to celebrate when they arrive.
I lift her off my lap and get off the bed. I notice her eyes following me, so I glance back at her and wink.
She scoffs, trying to pretend she's not madly in love with me. I go to unlock the drawer in the room and pick out the box I've been hiding in there for weeks now.
“Are you going to make me lasagna or not?”
She knows I will.
She's been begging me for days now, and I've been trying to save it for today for a reason. She's about to find out the reason.
“I will. After I do this.” I turn to meet her curious look.
Holding the box out, I study her reaction to see if she has a clue about what's inside. If she does, she doesn't show it.
Bending down on one knee, that’s when her reaction starts pouring out.
“Oh my God! Tell me it's not what I'm thinking.”
It's what she's thinking and more.
I smile, feeling happy that we're off to a perfect start. And then I open the box and unveil the ring I spent millions of dollars purchasing, almost all my money.
While I inherited billions, I've taken it upon myself to start making my own money the moment I quit firefighting. As expected, Richard was disappointed to see me go, but he was also very happy for me.
I discussed with him about looking for a promising venture to invest in. A few weeks later, I got a call from him about his desire to open a recruiting agency and needing a partner. We would own the business together. Imagine my surprise when I found out he has millions of dollars to invest.
We did that together. Then I spoke with Christopher, too. He was able to help me find promising companies to put some millions into, and currently, I'm making tons of money from them all.
I've also gotten quite the handle of my new company. Safe to say all is finally well in my world.
There's just one thing left to do now.
“Sarah, you're my light. I was in so much darkness, until you came around. And stupidly, I didn't appreciate your radiance, not until I had to start living without it, without you. I know our journey wasn’t the easiest one. Our love isn't the conventional type, either. If I was asked to go back in time though, I don't think I would have been able to change anything. The journey led us here, bumpy as it was. And I can't imagine not being herewith you. I never want to imagine going back to living without you, Olivia, Sheila, and our little angel. Marry me Sarah, and I'll devote the rest of my life to making you the happiest wife ever.”
“The happiest wife ever?”
