I chuckle. “Just listening to that rain. It’s still really coming down.” I glance over as the curtains swirl in the breeze.

“It’s nice, isn’t it?” She runs her fingers across my chest.

“The rain or this?”

“Both,” she says and kisses my cheek.

“It is nice,” I agree and pull her closer to me.

I take a few deep breaths and savor this moment with her. I wish time could stop right here and we could stay like this—happy in this place and time. But there’s a truth she doesn’t know. I’m wounded on the inside.

Her voice is barely above a whisper. “I wish we never would’ve broken up.”

My throat tightens. I never wanted to break up and the guilt I’ve carried around because I broke her heart has weighed on me. “I never wanted that either, but I’m glad we’re together now.”

I pause. I want to give myself enough time for the words to come out right. “I want something more with you. I want us to do things together. Talk about our day. Be there for each other. I only want to be with you, and I don’t want you to be with anyone else either.”

She turns to me and grins. “You want me to be your girlfriend?” Her voice is light and teasing.

This woman makes me happy—makes my heart soar. I’m trying to be serious. “I do. If that’s what the cool kids are calling it these days. I want to work on building up that trust we once had. I’ve missed you, Jules.”

I turn on my side and push my erection into her thigh. She turns to me and grins. “Looks like someone is ready to go again.”

“Always. For you.” I take her in my arms and cover her mouth with mine. She rolls over to the nightstand, grabs a condom, and sheaths me. Just having her hands on me is almost enough to make me go off like a rocket. She sits up to straddle me and impales herself on my shaft. I grab onto her hips, and she rides me with a mischievous grin. Her face becomes serious, and she readjusts her legs and continues the assault.

No complaints here.

Her eyes close and she lets out a loud whimper as her nails grip into my arms—holding me like she’ll never release me. I’m captivated. Just seeing her fall apart is enough to make me lose it, but I manage to hold on while she rides out her pleasure. She opens her eyes and winks. I pump into her harder and she’s close again. A few more pumps and we’re falling over the edge together. She rolls off me and we fall asleep in each other’s arms.

I open my eyes and Julia is looking at me. “Shit. How long have I been out?”

“I’m not sure. I just woke up a little while ago. I was just watching you sleep.”

I rub my chin. “Isn’t that kinda creepy?”

She shrugs. “Maybe.”

I give her a light kiss on the lips.

“You hungry?” she asks with a grin.

“Are you?”

She nods. “It’s going on seven o’clock. We never had any dinner and I believe I’ve worked up quite an appetite.”

I give her a little poke in the rib. “Is that so? I imagine you have.”

“Just wait here.”

She flies out of bed, throws on her silky robe, and makes her way down the hall. I’d rather she lose the robe. I’m not sure what’s she up to, but I’m too lazy to get out of this bed. The pillows are fluffy like I’m on a cloud, and they give off her soft scent. Everything in this room is her. The colors are soft pastels and whites—a clean look. White furniture, a white rug on the hardwoods.

Julia returns carrying a tray that she sets on my lap. “This should give us our strength back.”

The tray has cheese, crackers, salami, chips, some fruits, and a few cookies. She reaches into her robe pockets and comes up with two bottles of water. She takes off the robe, swirls it around overhead a few times, and it falls to the floor. She giggles and hops up on the bed, crawling over to me on all fours. I pull the blankets back and she settles in next to me.

I hand her a grape and instead of taking it from my hand she puts my fingers in her mouth and sucks.

Oh. Fuck.
