She put her hand on the phone to stop me.
“Let's tell our friends and family next week. I think we have told everyone separately, but I want to make sure we tell them all that it's official.”
“I can't fucking wait,” I whispered. I leaned in and captured her lips with mine. Callie deepened the kiss. I picked her up and placed her on the couch to get more comfortable. As soon as her perfect ass hit the couch, Callie's phone rang. She let it go to voicemail, but then it started ringing again. She hesitantly pulled away from the kiss.
“I have to get that.”
“Have to? Or want to?"
She chuckled. “Get up ya horn dog. I will only be a minute.”
I went back to my food as she picked up the call.
“Hey Aubs. What’s up?” she paused, seeming to listen to a very long-winded Aubrey. “Um, let me ask him.” She looked at me. “Link has been trying to call you. He said Elijah is passingthrough on his way to Boston and wants to grab beers with the two of you.”
I started talking with my mouth full. “He just left twenty minutes ago. When did he want to go?” I hadn’t checked my phone since I got home. I looked around and realized it wasn’t there. I must have left it in my room in my school bag.
“Tonight. He said he could pick you up at eight if you want.”
“I don’t know how I feel about leaving you alone after what happened today.”
She rolled her eyes, and I heard Aubrey yell into the phone, “What happened today?”.
She shushed me and then went back to her conversation. “Come over so I'm not alone, and he will go.”
“I never said—”
She held up her hand and said a few yeahs and yups with a few nods thrown in. Then she hung up. “Link and Aubrey will be here at eight. We are having a girl's night, and you are not allowed, so you have to go.”
“I don’t know, Cal,” I said hesitantly.
“I will be fine. Now go shower and make yourself look hot for all the thirsty women.”
I looked at her in shock. “What? Why would I want to look hot for other women?”
She walked up to me and grabbed my ass—or lack thereof—and gripped it tight. “Make them want what they can't have, baby.”
I chuckled and kissed her nose. “You are the weirdest woman I know.”
“I just trust my man.” She leaned back, giving me a look. “You would think, after what happened, I would be worried, but I guess I just know I don’t need to worry about you.”
I looked at her with admiration and love. I pushed my fingers into the hair at the base of her neck. “Never, Sweets. You will never have to worry about me even glancing in their direction.”
She stood up on her tiptoes and kissed me and pinched my ass. “I know.”
Chapter thirty-four
Callie
Aubrey came over, and we immediately started talking about our students and how their programs were going. She asked a little about therapy but understood and didn’t push when I didn’t want to elaborate on certain things. I don’t really tell her much about Nick and I sleeping together because we have already established it’s like her hearing about her brother having sex, but I did want to tell her I let him at least touch me.
“After the last session, we had a very sensual moment at the piano, and I have honestly been flinching a lot less since. I think therapy is really helping.”
She looked at me with a homemade margarita in her hand and queso on her lip. “That’s good, babe. I love that for you.”
I giggled and wiped her mouth. “Me too. I think things are really going to work out with us. It feels…perfect.”
She grabbed my hand. “It is perfect. It has been a long time coming.”
